Mr. Kyle has visited with the Museum group in past years and has helped keep us all abreast of the issues that affect the state railroads. He also has provided us with information on the health of the railroad industry in Oklahoma . There will be a very good power point presentation that the membership will enjoy Please plan to join us and bring a guest to this meeting. Let's try to pack the room. Come early and have a meal with friends and watch a DVD while you eat. This gives you a chance to visit with the members. There will be a door prize drawing at the meeting. 3 Larry D. Dodd Vice President and Program Chair Oklahoma Railway Museum, Ltd. The next ORM Board of Directors meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28 at 7 pm atORM. The ORM Affiliate Group of the North American Rail Car Operators Association (NARCOA), take a trip on the Kiamichi Railroad in January of this year. Mike Harker's Hi Rail Truck crosses the Red River into Texas O'J January 28. See story and more photos on page 3. Professional Affiliate Member of Association of Ra11way Museums "Advancing Railway Heritage" Museum Update .. by Drake Rice, ORM secretary The cold winter weather has slowed down some work at the Museum, but progress is still being made.

4 Volunteers have been working to put the generator under the diner and to remove the old electrical system in preparation of the rebuild and rewiring of the car. The installation of the genera-tor should be completed soon and the rewiring is due to start in early March. The Yard Office restroom has been clean, walls patched and repainted after a water leak last summer. Work on the Burlington caboose is winding down thanks to Charles Price and Bob Cossiart. This display is back in good shape for the public. They have also been doing work on the removal of the previous owners of the two new passenger cars we have. The county is working on NE 34th Street and paving should be complete in early March, thus making the entrance to the Museum a lot nicer and smoother for the public.

5 The curbed street has been much needed for a long time. We can thank the Centennial Commission for their help on getting this project finished. With the unfortunate shut down of the GM Plant in Oklahoma City, the Museum is getting five GM Jobs Bank employees from GM to assist in Museum work. The help is much appreciated, since we have a lot to do. To manage this number of people on a weekly basis, the ORM Board of Directors at the February 23 meeting voted to contract with MDM Locomotive Works to coordinate the work of the GM employees, mak_ing sure they had projects to work on, materials to accomplish the work and provide appropriate safety equipment. This is a trial by the ORM Board and MDM to see if this will provide the benefits the Museum desires from the use of the GM Jobs Bank Employees.

6 ORM member Jim Murray owns MDM Locomotive Works, and the board unanimously approved this agreement. With the added help, the Board is hoping with the volunteers we have on week-ends to have the Museum open during the week for a few hours and to get a lot of things done as we prepare for the "Day Out With Thomas" event this fall and the Centennial activities next year. Once again, the Museum has been contacted by a movie production company about filming at ORMand use of some equipment. We have not received any specific request, but have provided rate information to them. At the present time, the brake valves have been taken off Engine 301, the two new passenger cars and several other pieces of equipment for recertification.

7 The Mechanical Department hopes to have them back and the cars ready to go by mid-March. As you can see, there is always things happening at th e museum stop by and participate, you will be glad you did. The next quartz mountain Flyer excursion is scheduled for Saturday, April 22. The train also will run on July 1 and 15, August 5 and 19, September 2, October 7, November 25 and December 9. The two-hour train trips begin at 10 am and include a 20-30 minute stopover in lone Wolf. The quartz mountain Flyer passenger parking and boarding area is at the intersection of Routes 44 and 44A, approximately 17 miles north of Altus. Tickets may be picked up in advance at the lone Wolf City Hall or on the day of the excursion at the boarding platform.

Advanced reservations are suggested. 2006 rules class to be held March 4 in Kansas Warren Scholl will be conducting Book of Rules training on Saturday, March 4 in Overland Park, Kansas. Training begins at 8 am that day at the Johnson County Community College in Overland Park. The training focuses entirely on presentation of the General Code of Operating Rules and a test will follow the classroom instruction. In the afternoon, those attending the training will have the opportunity to run BNSF locomotive simulators.

9 The class size may be limited to those members who will be operating as a conductor, engineer or brakeman for the Operation Days at ORM. However, everyone who is interested is encouraged to sign-up. So far, 17 ORM members have signed up to attend the training. The members are to leave on March 3 for Kansas. For more information, contact Larry Dodd, ORM Vice President and Program Chair. Recycled aluminum cans benefit ORM For some time now, long-time member Willis Bottger has been saving aluminum cans in his neighborhood and from our recycle bin at ORM's Oakwood Depot. Once a month he makes a trip to the recycler and brings ORM a check. If you have cans that you normally put out for Oklahoma City to recycle or you have other recyclables, radiators, copper wire, aluminum scrap, etc.

10 , please save them for ORM and give Willis a call at 942-4691. He will come by and pick up at your location. If you are out at ORMand working, please toss your cans in the recycle bin so we can make use of them. Thanks. Steve Davis OHM members of NARCOA make motorcar run on Kiamichi RR by Drake Rice ORM Secretary On a wet Saturday, January 28th, ORM members of the North American Rail Car Operators Association (NARCOA) made an 84-mile motorcar run on the Kiamichi Railroad from Antlers, Oklahoma to Paris, Texas and back to Antlers. The lead Hi-Rail Truck was the Kiamichi, while Museum members own the rest of the equipment. Along the way, we met a nice piece of brush clearing equipment that Bob Hussey, Jim Murray and Guy Lynn wanted to bring back, but since it was need by the Kiamichi, they decided to leave it.
