It applies to the installation, operation and maintenance of the system. To ensure a continuous reliability of the system, it is recommended that an agreement to carry out regular maintenance of the installation is made with a competent and qualified contractor trained to service and maintain this system. Arrangements should be made such that a qualified person is available to provide service at the installation in the event of an emergency.

4 System Description Patent Premium Fireman Intercom System provides a two-way communication between remote areas and the Fire Command Centre in a building. The system comprises of a Master Control Console and Remote Handsets which are located at designated areas. The Master Control Console houses the following facilities: - Master Handset; - Selector switches for individual remote handsets; - Selection for Privacy and Conference mode of communication; - Visual indication and audible signal on Call and Fault for each remote handset; - Visual indication and audible signal for system malfunction; - Visual indication for recording system (where applicable).

5 O&M-PP-0 2 of 10 Operator s Manual for Fireman Intercom Patent 2 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION Master Control Console Master System Zone Control Modules Handset Control Module The Master Control Console comprises a Master Handset, a System Control Module and Zone Control Modules. The Master Handset is used to communicate with the remote handsets. The lifting of the handset will allow the operator to have control of the Master Control Console. The System Control Module provides visual and audio indications for the whole Fireman Intercom System. Visual indications display faults from power supply, battery, handsets fault, processor fault and/or common fault.

6 Where recording is applicable (with the modified TEAC W-790R), the module will also show the running time of the cassette as well as visual indications showing Cassette Stop and Cassette Out . The module also has two buttons for allowing operators to select between Privacy and Conference Mode. Each Zone Control Module controls and supervises 8 remote handsets. It is used to select and deselect the remote handsets as well as monitoring faults and calls from remote handsets. 7 The enclosure can be opened by an assigned key or break-glass in order to access the handset. Lifting of the handset will initiate a conversation with the Master Control Console. Supervisory Termination Panel The Supervisory Termination Panel is an interface between the Master Control Console and the Remote Handsets. Each panel can connect up to 8 handsets. 8 A) Power on led is lighted; b) No other indicator is lighted; c) The panel is silent; d) All handsets are silent; Remote Handset calling Master Control Console The raising of any remote handset from its cradle will: a) be indicated visually at the Zone Control Module, on the Master Control Console, the location of the handset by means of a flashing led; b) sound a distinct audible signal at the Master Control Console; c) produce an audible tone in that handset. This tone will disappear once the master handset is raised and communication is established. The raising of the master handset from its cradle will: a) silence the audible signal at the Master Control Console; b) replace the flashing led on the Zone Control Module by a continuous lighted indication; c) Intercom led is lighted.

9 If more than one remote handset are raised before the master handset is raised, the raising of the master handset will allow communication with these handsets. Master Control Console calling Remote Handset In initiate communication with one or more remote handsets, the following procedure applies: a) Raise the master handset from its cradle. This will allow the operator to select the remote handset(s). An audible tone will be produced in the master handset. This tone will disappear if any remote handset is raised. 10 A flashing led will indicate that the remote handset is selected for communication. c) A distinct audible signal will be heard at the selected remote handset. Upon the raising of the remote handset, the audible signal will disappear and communication with the master handset is established. The flashing led on the Zone Control Module will be replaced by a continuous lighted indication Additional Remote Handsets calling Master Control Console During the course of a conversation between the master handset and a remote handset, if one or more additional remote handsets are raised, this condition will be indicated by a flashing led on the respective Zone Control Module.
