3 When Arie was just a kid and his father and he got caught by the microbe called pigeon sport .. With no nonsense and top genes as key-words, Enne and Arie DIJKSTRA walked the road to eternal fame in pigeon racing. After immediate provincial successes in the Seventies, National highlights followed from the early Eighties on .. and since the first DIJKSTRA pigeons excelled on One Loft races around the WORLD , the name is written with golden letters in the annals of pigeon sport. 4 Those days pigeon racing was a real popular pastime and Enne build him 2 small lofts to home 9 pairs, filled with youngsters from local fanciers .. as time was scarce with a young family and a busy job, he raced in partnership with Jaap Noordhof under the name Comb. Buko .. in 1970 they were already 7. champion overall in the province of Frysl n and won a provincial race with The 023 .. still the genes of this winner run through the veins of many current top racers!Because of Enne s job in the army, the family moved to Germany and a selection of pigeons moved with them. Along with his own pigeons, youngsters from the best breeders of the brothers Willem and Piter Beerda came to Enne DIJKSTRA .

5 Willem and Piter are now WORLD famous because their pigeons are the base of the famous Jelle Jellema strain .. In 1972 already Beerda had high class pigeons. The base was the famous Belgian allround strain of Tournier. The Oude Belg and Othello x Nel genes from Jac Tournier but also Tournier pigeons via Dick Postma and Arie Van De Hoek, crossed with a bit of Louis Van Loon and Jan Aarden bloodlines as well. About five years Enne raced his pigeons in Germany and did very, very well. In 1977 the army enabled him to return to The Netherlands and the DIJKSTRA family went to the small village Kollummerpomp. Arie had just turned 11 that year and more and more he helped his father homing the pigeons.

6 He fed them when his father was away during the week for a course and in those days with Piter Beerda as clubmate Arie learned a lot about pigeons. He also became part of success; in 1978 already Enne and Arie raced the 1. provincial acebird. His best memories go back to 1981. We raced all distances, also the marathon race from Bergerac. We entered 6 Beerda based pigeons and won provincial from 1023 km .. the first three all had the same mother, a granddaughter of Oude Belg Tournier. The first two were bred with the same cock, directly from Willem and Piter Beerda. A year before, in 1980, we had the 5. Nat.

7 Racing hen WHZB and she was bred from a full sister to the 1. & 5. provincial Bergerac (1023 km). No wonder later Jelle Jellema became so famous with pigeons from the same origin!! For us they have been doing great since the late Seventies. // Outstanding skills in all disciplines The super result on Bergerac was naturally no coincidence. And again; the pigeons doing the job on that heavy edition are again ancestors of the current champions. It is probably one of the strongest characteristics in the strain of DIJKSTRA ; their ability to pass on top genes to many new generations. Successful fanciers are often blessed with peculiar character traits.

8 For Arie DIJKSTRA the combination of an extreme high regularity in managing his pigeons with searching for the borders of creativity in music makes him that unique. Two opposites and that is exactly why Arie chose music as outlet. In pigeon sport I am maybe close to autistic Arie says. When it comes to music I let myself go and get lost in what I like. Both pigeons and music I absolutely love, however I experience them in total different ways. The only similarity is that in both I want to be very good! 9 We never visit a veterinary surgeon during the racing season , Arie says, and we still don t. A pigeon must always be able to keep itself healthy; that is one of the principles we follow without concessions. The family moved again, now to Buitenpost in 1982. Racing as E. & A. DIJKSTRA , in 1983 already they had 1. acebird long distance provincial LD Club and for the 10 years to come they were amongst the top 10 provincial champions every single year. In these years the strain of DIJKSTRA got its unique identity. With a/o the famous Blauwe Koppel , formed by a Beerda based cock from Tournier lines x a blue hen of Gebr.

10 Janssen origin .. this pair bred at least 13x 1. Prize winners including De Dikke Blauwe , as a yearling 1. acebird Fed., as a five year old again 1. acebird Fed and totally 5x 1., later grandfather of Tinkelbel .. a full sister was crowned 3. Nat. ace hen De Vredesduif in 1989 .. a half sister to De Dikke Blauwe was 1. acebird on short, middle and long distance .. from 100 to 800 km; the DIJKSTRA pigeon could do the in the Eighties, the Tournier Pair was formed .. especially famous for their offspring with the unique colour choco. Again the Beerda genes and Oude Belg Tournier genes are at the base of this pair, that definite-ly broke through when a granddaughter was crowned 3.
