8 Jn 4:5-42 [5-15, 19b-26, 39a, 40-42] March 13, 2022 Dear good people of Our lady , How is your Lent going so far? Expect chal-lenges and surprises along the way. It is not easy to loosen our grasp on things, but if we are willing to do that, we make more room for God to move within our hearts and lives. As we start the second week of our Lenten journey, we hear a familiar Trans-figuration of the Lord on Mt. Tabor. This event likely occurred during the last year of Jesus three-year min-istry. Jesus ascends Mt. Tabor with Peter, James, and John, and makes known to these three disciples his divine nature in a visible way. The gospel writers describe this transfiguration as Jesus face shining like sun, and his clothes as white as light. They add that Elijah and Moses appeared in visible form and con-versed with him. While the apostles were coming to believe that Jesus was in fact the messiah, the transfig-uration confirmed it visibly.

9 How many times do we wish we could have just seen what the apostles were privy to. How amaz-ing it must have been! Simon Peter s response to this most awesome of revelations was an immediate desire to just stay there. Peter even offered to pitch tents for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. How completely captivating. Have you ever had an encounter with God that left you speechless and in awe? I know that I have had quite a few. In fact, I don t know if I could have found my way to the seminary with out these events stirring my heart in the ways that they did. Quite a few of them have occurred while on retreats, both when I was young and older. Every one of them, I was surprised by. I never expected, but God showed me. As I write this, our Women s ACTS Retreat is still taking reser-vations for this year s retreat which will run from the evening of March 17th to noon on March 20th.

10 Ladies, I don t know what awaits each of you who choose to register, but I can guarantee that you will experience the Lord in a new way. There is still time, just call the parish office to register. Sadly, after the transfiguration was over, Jesus didn t allow Peter to pitch those tents, and all too soon it was time for them to walk back down the mountain. With mountain top experiences, as important as they can be, they are also short lived. Life resumes and it can be as if that experience of wonder and joy never took place. It is either forgotten among the hustle and bustle of life, or we easily discount it as a mirage, or a figment of our imagination. Simon Peter, easily let go of this when faced with Jesus arrest. When he was pressed by the others in the courtyard as to whether or not Peter was Jesus disciple, he forgot the mountain experience and said no . Life is tough that way.
