Foris Page 3 Our Lady of Lourdes Parish January 23, 2022 A Letter from the Pastor s Dear Friends: One of my dearest friends, another pastor in our diocese, often discusses fundraising with me. His approach is what we might call the constant ask and reminder. Mine is more: the people of the parish pay bills of their own. They know expenses and know that costs are rising for all of us. Surely, they understand that our parish is facing the same challeng-es as everyone else. So, it is my disposition to ask for your increased support rarely! I m not sure if my priest friend is correct, but I am not inclined to bother you often asking for more financial support. But these are not ordinary times! For well over two years, we have faced a pandemic like nothing we've known before. It has kept large numbers of parishioners from returning to the Church for Mass on any regular basis.

And while the collec-tions are often supported by those who watch our Masses services online through direct mail, through Faith Direct online giving, or by using PayPal, the absence of people in Church has had for us, and most other parishes, a real and challenging impact on our parish budget. This lowering of support has been offset a bit by donations we've received from good people around the world who reg-ularly watch our daily Mass services online and have become distant supporters of our parish. They have been a saving grace for us. It's edifying to realize that now thousands of people around America and the world are part of our extended parish family. Their letters and emails of appreciation for our parish are a beautiful tribute to all that we are at Our Lady of Lourdes ! You may remember that we also organized a special pledge campaign during the worst of the pandemic, when churches were closed by command of the state, and many of you stepped up to keep the parish alive by your generosity and good-ness.

You too were a saving grace. With the recent resurgence of a Covid variant, making lots of people sick and definitely causing many to stay away from attending public worship, I ask you to think seriously about giving what you can, and increasing your weekly donation if at all humanly possible. As always, I don't ask you to do what I haven't committed myself to doing in my own parish donations. We're all in this together!! Thanks for the consideration and I hope your decision to join us in lending Our Lady of Lourdes whatever additional support you can afford. On another happy note, our Father Andiy is out of the hospital and doing very well. He is deeply thankful for your prayerful support. I know Father Kevin is as well. Both are healthy again, thank God! We are united in praying for an end to this painful pandemic and hopeful for a brighter future. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Msgr. Jim Lisante Pastor Page 4 Our Lady of Lourdes Parish January 23, 2022 February 11th is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes , the patroness of our parish. Our parish will be celebrating this feast day on sunday , February 13th. In honor of the Blessed Mother, we would like to decorate the Church with fresh flowers. Anyone who has devotion to the Blessed Mother and would like to contribute to the purchase of the flowers can drop their donation off at the Rectory office during business hours. Page 5 Our Lady of Lourdes Parish JANUARY 23, 2022 From the Our Lady of Lourdes Wednesday January 26: all classes will meet as scheduled Saturday January 29: All classes will meet as scheduled Mr. Tom Alessandro s level 6 students presented a reenactment of the gospel story of the miracle of the loaves and fishes to Miss Sue and Miss Carey s level 2 class.

From left to right: Gianna Palminteri, Charlotte Pachucki, Julian Nelson, Chase Graell, Joseph Chimenti, Logan Brandt, Alexander Avila, and Peyton McManamon. Afterwards, the level 2 students worked on a craft which reinforced the Gospel story that they just heard. Pictured below: Arianna Nelson, Giuliana Daleo, Malina O Connor, Mikayla Moore and Ella Meyer. Our students were recently asked, What if you had a friend who only reached out to you when he/she needed something? What would you think? Their reactions included that the friend was just using you, that he was selfish, that she wasn t a true friend, that he only cares about himself. Then, our students were asked to consider the type of friend they are to God. Do they only pray when they need something or when things were not going well for them? Are they always asking God for things? God wants us to turn to Him when we need something.

In Matthew s gospel, Jesus said, Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. Calling on God when we need something can be a sign of deep trust and friendship. However, we need to balance the asking with some giving, thanking, and praising. Apologizing and making amends with those we have hurt. Seeking forgiveness for our sins. Extending generosity and kindness to others. Quietly listening to what God is telling us. Students were reminded that the same concept applies to their parents. Daddy I and Mommy can I need to be balanced with some giving without the expectation of receiving. Thank your parents. Help them around the house. Have a real conversation with them. Show that you care about them. Prayer is not only presenting requests to God; it is also God presenting His will to our hearts.

Although you may have specific things that you want from God, it is good to pray that His will be done in your life. Ask Him to move you however He wants, and not how you want. So, keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking until God grants your request or He convinces you that your request is not His will for you. And remember to praise Him for being loving and mighty, and to thank Him for guiding you and blessing you. Balance the asking with lots of giving.
