A mid-September sellout is expected. Register today at: Eternal Life and the Gifts of Life As we reflect on the importance of a Mass of Christian Burial, (Funeral Mass) we should also reflect on our continual remembrance of our departed.

8 The Church offers so many ways to remember and honor those who have passed away. In our daily lives we also can remember those we loved and honor them by the things we do and the thoughts we have about them. So often we speak of a person s laughter, kindness, warmth, generosity, compassion, skills and talents. These things are comfort and many times we try to imitate them and make them part of our life journey. Such a great way to honor those whom we loved. But the Spiritual life of the person is just as important and the physical life they lived. Our faith teaches us that we are united with our brothers and sisters who have entered the kingdom. This unity is our connection to prayer and affirmation that we believe in eternal life. We make this a reality when we remember our deceased through a Mass Intention, Memorial intention, or even by taking the time and placing a remembrance on a church star. The offering of Mass is the greatest and most generous form of remembrance.

9 It helps the family and the community remember and pray for a particular person throughout the year. This practice is all so familiar with the older Catholic but the young people of today need it to be taught to them. They really do not understand the value of a Mass intention. So often we see a person prepare and request masses for their family members, but then this member passes to eternal life and all is forgotten. Please don t let that happen, teach your children and grand-children the importance of this practice. #128 Memorials are also something so valuable. They have an everlasting remembrance of the family or person for all to reflect upon and honor. Such a great gift to offer someone who is hurting from the passing of a loved one. But again, our younger members have no idea of this practice. They are so concerned with social media and the hallmark greeting that they have never been given the opportunity to learn of the value found here in a Memorial and or Mass Intention.

10 SO, please, teach them, they need to learn. On this weekend we conclude summer and honor the labor of our work. We do this as a nation, all of us knowing what Labor Day means and why it is a holiday. This type of understanding does not exist anymore in the Church world. The gap between generations has left so much knowledge and so many of the practices of faith behind. Therefore, I reach out to you on this holiday and encourage you to spend a moment reviewing and teaching these important traditions of the church to your younger family members. This is the time to pass on the practice of the faith, so that for you, at least, it does not end when your earthly journey is complete and your entrance into eternal life is begun. We need to be honored and remembered, so let s make sure our body of people understand the great avenues offered by OLMC to never forget your loved when they enter Eternal Life.
