The STV and STU switches areidentical in design except that one is arranged forvertical mounting and the other for : As a single pole DISCONNECT it canbe readily used in substations or on transmissionand distribution Jaw ContactHigh-pressure, self-wiping line type contacts areprovided on all switches .

Heavyphosphor bronze spring washers assure uniformcontact hinge assembly kV, 600 ampere Unitized Jaw & HingeConstructionSingle unit castings are used for both hinge andjaw terminals thereby reducing the number oftransfer points and providing a better distributionof current. 4 Copper cross braces pro-viding extra strength and rigidity are utilized onthe larger switches . Large Opening EyeA large opening eye of heavy bronze construc-tion assures ease of operation. Positive Blade LatchPositive side-operating, phosphor bronze spring-type blade latches prevent the switch from open-ing as a result of fault current or through vibra-tion. Pry-Out LeverageThe action of the opening eye with its increasedleverage spreads the blade latches and impartsan easy initiating motion to open the assembly arrangement of a closed, under-hung mounted, switch complete with counter-balancing. Rigid Blade GuidesRigid cast bronze blade guides are provided toassure positive closing of blade on each opera-tion, regardless of position of HOOKSTICK .

5 TerminalsTe rminal pads are provided with NEMA standard9/16 holes on 13/4 centers. Blade StopDouble 90 open blade stops are standard. Otheropening stops can be provided when specified. CounterbalancingSwitches rated kV, (5 ) and above arenormally furnished with a compression springcounterbalancing assembly which offsets theweight of the blade when opening or closing theswitch.
