Transcription of Overview - CrushFTP
OverviewCrushFTP is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server, not to be confused with an FTP client. CrushFTP is the server that the FTP client connects to in order to download, or upload files. FTP is a standard Internet protocol that was very well planned and thought out. CrushFTP is shareware. You are allowed to download and use it for 30 days. If after 30 days you do not want it, just delete it. If you want to continue using it, you can purchase a license from my web site. ( ) During the evaluation period, CrushFTP will not save server settings, or reports, and reminds you that you need to register when you run it. It does however save users, and all user RequirementsCrushFTP requires JAVA, and 8/9: MRJ is required, along with SWING is not built into MRJ (Macintosh Runtime for Java).MacOS X: Nothing additional is needed. Windows 9x, NT, 2000, XP: JRE (Java Runtime Environment) or higher. (Non beta versions.)
SWING is built into JRE. Linux: JRE (Java Runtime Environment) is required. SWING is built into JRE. InstallationCrushFTP does not require installation. Under MacOS classic, just open up the application and run it. You will have to have previously installed Under Mac OS X, just double click the .jar file. The .jar extension is hidden, and it has the icon on it. Under windows, just double click the .jar file, or the file (which essentially double clicks the .jar for you) to run CrushFTPC rushFTP is an extremely powerful FTP server solution. It s more than the standard FTP server, and I ll explain why. I ll also explain the uniqueness of many of its features and the overall concept of is written entirely in JAVA. I know you may be a little scared of that at first, but there are many many advantages to this. First off JAVA runs on almost every platform. JAVA runs in a web browser, allowing for the unique ability of remote administration with the exact same interface that the server has.
JAVA is very fast for network and disk I/O even if the interface is sometimes sluggish. Using JAVA allows for rapid development without potential crashes to your Machine. JAVA runs in its own little virtual it s very unlikely to crash your implements all of the popular restrictions and features that most FTP servers have. However, no other FTP servers implement as many features as CrushFTP does. It s been built on user requests and suggestions, along with my own ideas. Features like queue s for uploads/downloads, or failed command banning after so many failed commands in so many seconds, and speech abilities are features very unique to CrushFTP . There are many, many other features giving CrushFTP the superior servers claim to have a virtual file system for sharing out the files, but only CrushFTP really does. Other FTP servers allow you to specify various folders that the user gets access to when they login.
What s virtual about that? CrushFTP lets you drag and drop folders from anywhere on your HD into the file system you build. You start out with an empty file system, you add folders you want the user to access. You then can modify what files/folders are in the ones you added, and even drag in other folders in there. Say you drag a folder called "Documents" from your HD into the file system. You then open the Documents folder and drag a folder called "Games" from your HD. Then renaming that folder Games to be "My Games". Nothing on your HD was changed at the virtual file system that the user will see. That s virtual. But that s only the beginning. You can copy and paste folders/files around manipulating the file system into whatever you want using ctr-c, ctr-x, and ctr-v. (Its control on MacOS 9, and Win command under OS X.) Now that s really virtual. But, it wouldn t be virtual without adding in other file systems as well.
CrushFTP supports other FTP sites as if they were your own local hard drives. Just add a remote folder into your own virtual file system. Now your friend s FTP server appears to be part of your server making your server look even bigger. You can even restrict what access a user gets beyond whatever the account you used to access the server specifies. Now that is what I mean by a virtual file system. CrushFTP s virtual file system is a live virtual file 3's prices are as follows: CrushFTP - 5 concurrent logins, registration reminder screen, no saving of the server preferences, or reports.
