This rate was percentage point higher than the Region 's year ago rate of percent. The Region 's October 2020 unemployment rate was percentage point lower than the state rate of percent. The labor force was 282,827, down 3,497 ( ) over the year.

2 There were 15,640 unemployed residents in the Region . Martin County had the lowest unemployment rate ( percent) in the CareerSource Research Coast Region followed by Indian River County ( percent) and St. Lucie County ( percent). The CareerSource Research Coast Region contains two metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs): the Port St. Lucie MSA (Martin and St. Lucie counties) and the Sebastian-Vero Beach MSA (Indian River County). In October 2020, nonagricultural employment in the combined CareerSource Research Coast metro areas was 206,100, a decrease of 3,700 jobs ( percent) over the previous year. In the combined CareerSource Research Coast metro areas, the major industries that gained jobs over the year were mining, logging, and construction (+1,000 jobs); manufacturing (+400 jobs); and trade, transportation, and utilities (+300 jobs).

3 The government (-1,900 jobs); education and health services (-1,500 jobs); other services (-900 jobs); leisure and hospitality (-700 jobs); information (-200 jobs); and financial activities (-100 jobs); and professional and business services (-100 jobs) industries lost jobs over the year. Port St. Lucie Metro Area The majority of the nonagricultural employment in the CareerSource Research Coast Region was in the Port St. Lucie metro area. This metro area accounted for 153,500 jobs in October 2020, a decrease of 2,200 jobs from October 2019 ( percent). The mining, logging, and construction (+ percent); manufacturing (+ percent); professional and business services (+ percent); and trade, transportation, and utilities (+ percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than the statewide over the year.

The Port St. Lucie MSA had the second fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in manufacturing (+ percent) in October 2020. The Port St. Lucie MSA was tied for the second highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in trade, transportation, and utilities (+400 jobs) in October 2020. The Port St. Lucie MSA had the third fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in mining, logging, and construction (+ percent) and trade, transportation, and utilities (+ percent) in October 2020.

5 The Port St. Lucie MSA was tied for the third highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in mining, logging, and construction (+900 jobs) in October 2020. The industries gaining in jobs over the year were: mining, logging, and construction (+900 jobs); manufacturing (+400 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+400 jobs); and professional and business services (+300 jobs). The government (-1,600 jobs); leisure and hospitality (-1,000 jobs); education and health services (-800 jobs); other services (-600 jobs); information (-100 jobs); and financial activities (-100 jobs) lost jobs over the year. Sebastian-Vero Beach Metro Area In October 2020 nonagricultural employment in the Sebastian-Vero Beach MSA was 52,600, a decrease of 1,500 jobs ( percent) over the year.

6 The leisure and hospitality (+ percent) and mining, logging, and construction (+ percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than the statewide over the year. The Sebastian-Vero Beach MSA had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in leisure and hospitality (+ percent) in October 2020. The Sebastian-Vero Beach MSA had the highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in leisure and hospitality (+300 jobs) in October 2020. The industries gaining in jobs over the year was leisure and hospitality (+300 jobs) and mining, logging, and construction (+100 jobs).
