It will be necessary to encourage strong leadership in championing the importance of, and a common sense approach to, health and safety in the workplace. ACTION BY BPI ACTIONS HOW WILL IT BE DONE BY WHOM MEASURE END OF YR1 Board to support SIMPL Initiative. MD to sign up to pledge. CEO overall responsibility at board level for health & safety.
2 Company signed up END OF YR2 Provide ongoing training of directors across the Group. Site responsible directors to actively monitor health and safety arrangements and performance. Responsible directors to attend health & safety course. All site responsible directors to complete a minimum of twice yearly directors audits. Attendance by over 90% of directors. Over 90% compliance across Group. END OF YR3 HEALTH & SAFETY ACTION plan SIMPL INITIATIVE 2011 2014 V1 AUGUST 2011 management SYSTEMS: To achieve a good foundation the company must make appropriate arrangements to have a health and safety policy which commits the company to meeting health and safety standards, a system for capturing areas where improvement can be made and mechanisms to plan for the needed changes.

Ensure all sites have an effective Safety management System Site Directors Reviewed and revised policy. END OF YR2 Progress and Improve upon Safety management Systems. Carry out gap analysis for 18001. Summary report for all sites. END OF YR3 Progress 18001 accreditation throughout Group. Sites to review gap analysis and work towards achieving 18001. 25% of Sites to have achieved 18001. 4 The company will provide appropriate arrangements via a structure for communication, and provide competent worker representation on health and safety matters. ACTION BY BPI ACTIONS HOW WILL IT BE DONE BY WHOM MEASURE END OF YR1 Improve effectiveness of communication with employees. Provide guidance to sites on how to run effective health & safety committees. Collate and review minutes from H&S Committee meetings to ensure that they are effective. Implement Behavioural Root Cause Analysis Training across Group Carry out HSE Safety Climate Survey.

6 By signing the SIMPL Pledge the company is committing to reducing risk (the potential to cause harm) in your workplace. To do this the company will need to identify that key health and safety issues within its business and come up with measures to eliminate or control them. ACTION BY BPI ACTIONS HOW WILL IT BE DONE BY WHOM MEASURE END OF YR1 Take ACTION to reduce higher risk areas including those that have the potential to result in the most common and most serious accidents. Identify 3 Key Accident Target Areas to focus on. Have 3 risk areas identified END OF YR2 Provide sites with key H&S Information to help reduce key risks. Develop Group Specific Tools including Tool Box Talks, Checksheets etc to address 3 key areas highlighted.
7 Have in place 3 campaigns which target 3 risk areas identified. END OF YR3 All Sites to have carried out campaigns on 3 identified risk areas. 75% of sites to have implemented targeted campaigns. HEALTH & SAFETY ACTION plan SIMPL INITIATIVE 2011 2014 V1 AUGUST 2011 ACCIDENT REDUCTION OBJECTIVE: Accidents in the workplace no matter how minor should not be tolerated. Apart from the impact on the employee and the workforce as a whole it is well documented that every accident carries a cost to the business. Proactive accident reduction has whole cycle benefits to business operations and investment in identifying and managing accidents is seen as the first base for improving health and safety.
8 ACTION BY BPI ACTIONS HOW WILL IT BE DONE BY WHOM MEASURE END OF YR1 To review collection and analysis of accidents and near misses. Review accident collection details and ensure consistency with pafa . Develop new Group Near Miss Reporting System. Confirm accident collection information. END OF YR2 BPI to review accident level and agree target reductions. Introduce target reductions for each site. Introduce new Group Near Miss Reporting System. Have accident reduction targets set. 100% of sites to have implemented new system. END OF YR3 Monitor and Review.
