Tom Pease Patchwork Singing . Music is often such an integral part of a child's everyday celebration of their world. Through song, movement and humor, Tom will help conference participants to enhance these everyday celebrations. He'll give everyone more practical ideas and tools to reinforce our children's wondrous sense of fun and play, their sense of community and their sense of hope. Be prepared to sing, move, dance and laugh. Recording devices are not only welcomed, they are encouraged. Tom Pease was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa along the Mississippi River and its surrounding bluffs gave him foundation love of the natural world.

2 Eventually this led him to teaching environmental education for 3 years in California which is where he first started Singing with kids. He then moved to his brother's farm in Wisconsin to teach a bit and learn animal husbandry, carpentry and masonry skills. After a few years of working with his hands, he began to miss working with kids. Music was his vehicle back to them. Tom has performed full time since 1982 doing over 200 programs yearly. He now resides in rural Amherst, Wisconsin on 75 acres of rolling woods and fields with his wife, Louise and their sons, Broegy and Morgan and their dog and cat. Their home is both solar heated and solar electric. The sun also helps raise a big garden and many chickens each year. They ski, bike, run and walk on trails around their land. They live in a wonderful community of friends and neighbors. Louise is a reading teacher and an avid lake swimmer. 3 Come learn about ways to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with all ages as local teachers and child care centers share their approaches. Lunchtime Roundtable Discussions -- OPTIONAL. 12:30pm to 1:00pm Again this year, you will have the opportunity to earn additional in-service credit over the lunch break. Network with other EC Professionals as you discuss issues in Early Childhood Education, share ideas, and get advice. Choose from the following six topics: a. Bringing Kindness into the Classroom b. Reducing Teacher Burnout c. Learning with Loose Parts d. Wild About Circle Time e. Networking with Family Child Care f. Bringing More STEAM to your Classroom This is an optional session! If you are interested in joining a Roundtable Discussion YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER for a specific topic on the Conference Registration Form Part Two . Space will be limited, so get your registration in Early ! Buffet Lunch Lunch is included in your conference registration.

4 This year we will serve a deli sandwich buffet. Dessert, coffee, tea, and cold beverages will also be served with lunch. We are sorry that we are unable to accommodate specific dietary needs/restrictions and hope that our choices will be satisfactory for all. Directions to the North Shore Event Centre The North Shore Event Centre (formerly Radisson North Shore) is located just east of I-43. and south of Good Hope Road. The address is 7065 North Port Washington Road, Milwaukee, 53217. Coming from Milwaukee, take I-43 north to the Good Hope Road exit. Take the Good Hope Road East exit. You will be going East on Good Hope for a very short distance to Port Washington Road. At the light, turn RIGHT onto Port Washington Road. The #68 City of Milwaukee bus route stops right in front of the Event Centre. For further information on bus routes, contact the Milwaukee County Transit System at 414-344-6711. Parking and entrances to the Event Centre will be easy to locate.

5 Enter the Hotel at the side or main entrance. Our registration table will be set up in the North Lobby. You will receive directions to the other workshop locations at that time. Reminders You must register in advance. All registrations must be postmarked no later than Friday, February 16th. After that date, you may register at the conference but workshop availability may be limited. You will not receive written confirmation of your registration. We will, however, contact you if we are unable to accommodate any of your workshop choices. Session #1 Workshops 8:00am to 9:15am Workshop #1: Test Drive a Ukulele: Learn to Play the Ukulele to bring a Joyful Noise to Lessons and Routines Presenter: Steve Girman, Early Childhood Instructor, Waukesha County Technical College Good teachers use music to enhance their lessons and routines.

6 Most of the songs you already sing can be accompanied by two or three simple chords on a ukulele. Children of all ages are more likely to tune in to your lessons when holding this little guitar. We will provide a ukulele for you to use during the workshop with the hope that some of you will be inspired to visit your local music store to buy one for yourself. Workshop #2: Career Longevity (aka Self-Care) for Educators Presenter: Ronnie Jean Artero Frederick, Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and Founder of KANNAI Theraputic Massage, LLC. Early Childhood Educators play such an important role in children's lives. It's important to develop a plan for career longevity to rejuvenate and reduce burnout. This class will discuss simple self-care tips, including classroom appropriate stretches, massage techniques, and regular household or classroom items which can be used as massage tools.

7 Workshop #3: Wild About Circle Time! Presenter: Shemaiah Burks, Head Teacher, Milestones Programs for Children 25 ideas to keep your toddlers interested and engaged at Circle Time, including music, movement, and stories. Please come prepared to join in the fun! Workshop #4: Inquiry & the Young Child: Invitations to Play the STEAM Way! Presenter: Gina Flynn, 4K Teacher, St. Robert School, Shorewood Come explore more about 21st century thinking skills and engage your curiosity about the inquiring minds of young children. Find out what STEAM stands for and WHY it is critical in an Early Childhood environment. Learn HOW to integrate STEAM into what you are already doing. We will take a peek inside a STEAM classroom and learn how to manage and organize materials to make setting up a breeze. Workshop #5: Kindness in the Classroom Presenter: Tammy Flynn, The On-Air Advocate Creater/Host/Owner This workshop will give examples on how to create an environment of acceptance & kindness for everyone.

8 We will explore topics of bullying, invisible disabilities, and different abilities through activities, projects & educational content which will be transferable to the classroom or other settings. Students, parents and teachers will learn to collaborate together in an effort to create awareness, kindness & acceptance for all. Session #2 Workshops 11:00am to 12:15pm Workshop #6: Adapting Everyday Songs Presenter: Tom Pease, Musician, Performer, and Educator We will share songs but also focus on adapting songs, writing songs and adding movement to songs to integrate Singing into day-to-day routines and teaching concepts. We will also spend time sharing the little songs teachers use for transitions, lessons and spontaneous celebration. Come to sing, to share ideas and to problem solve around specific issues or topics used in the classroom Workshop #7: Overview of Pediatric Massage and Story Massage in the Classroom Presenter: Ronnie Jean Artero Frederick, Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and Founder of KANNAI Theraputic Massage, LLC.

9 Research shows that the benefits of massage far outweigh the risks associated with massage therapy. While the application and deliver of massage may differ for infants/youth than adults, children of all ages and abilities enjoy many of the well-known benefits of touch therapy. The important difference -- sessions are shorter, much more interactive, playful, and fun. What better way to accomplish this than through Story Massage! Please bring a Yoga Mat or Large Bath Towel Workshop #8: Introducing American Sign Language with Infants & Toddlers Presenter: Katie Chaplin, Infant Lead Teacher, UWM Children's Learning Center Come discover the benefits of providing Early communication among infants and young toddlers in the classroom with the use of American Sign Language (ASL). We will explore how educators may include sign language naturally in the classroom to enhance children's language, emotional development, and learning.

10 American Sign Language serves as a bridge of communication and an opportunity for an enriched learning environment that can improve the Early Childhood classroom experience. Workshop #9: Finger Plays and Songs for All Seasons Presenter: Cindy Gillett, Director/Teacher, Kid's World Learning Center, Rice Lake, WI. Learn how to create props that enhance the overall enjoyment of fingerplays and songs which encourage language development, memory skills, math skills and more in young children. (*Note: Items will be available for purchase with cash or credit card.). Workshop #10: Networking with Family Child Care Presenter: Diane Eisen, Owner of 4-Kids Family Childcare, & Leticia Browley-Wright, Family Child Care Provider, Lil Stars Academy Leaving Center & Preschool Family child care comes with its own special set of rewards and challenges. This session will allow you to meet and network with other family child care providers while discussing issues relevant to our unique environment.
