Established in 1993, MAHE Manipal has been offering Doctoral (PhD) programs in various disciplines through its constituent institutions and collaborating research centers, since 1995. PhD Program The broad objectives of the PhD programme is to contribute to the creation of new knowledge and also enable the researcher to develop the competency of conducting research individually or in a group later on. MAHE Manipal offers Doctoral (PhD) studies in a wide range of areas covering Health Sciences (Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Regenerative Medicine, Statistics, Virus Research etc), Science, Technology & Management (Architecture & Design, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Basic & Advanced Sciences, Commerce, Engineering, Hotel Management & Culinary Arts, Information Sciences, Management etc.)

5 And Humanities, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (European Studies, Geopolitics & International Relations, Humanities, Media & Communication, Languages, Philosophy etc.). MAHE Manipal encourages research in interdisciplinary areas through a system of joint supervision and interdepartmental group activities. Over 800 students have completed their Doctoral studies from MAHE Manipal, in the last 5 years Categories Applicants can aspire for their Full-Time doctoral studies at MAHE Manipal, under the following categories: There are NO opportunities for part-time doctoral studies at MAHE Manipal for external candidates Category 1: Candidates with Valid National Fellowships Duration: Minimum years from date of admission, Maximum 6 years Eligibility o Post graduates with UGC / CSIR NET JRF / ICMR JRF / DBT JRF / JEST / INSPIRE / NDF and having a valid fellowship at the time of admission are eligible to apply for Full-Time PhD program under this category Admission Process o Admission Schedule.

6 Four times a year (January, April, July and October) o Selection to the PhD program under this category would be by a panel of experts through presentation and an interview Such candidates are exempted from the All India online PhD Manipal Entrance Test (MET) conducted by MAHE Manipal Course Fee o Selected candidates are exempted from paying the course fee Stipend & Other Support o Contingency grant of Rs. 1,50,000 per year, for 3 years will be given for research work of the PhD student to cover equipment, consumables and publication costs. This amount cannot be used for the manpower and travel. o Financial assistance to a maximum of Rs. 30,000 during the PhD program will be provided for presenting paper at national / international conference(s).

7 This amount can be utilized within 4 years of admission or before thesis submission, whichever is earlier o Above facilities can be availed with prior approval from MAHE Manipal Email for more details. Category 2: Dr. TMA Pai Scholarships Duration: Minimum years from date of admission, Maximum 6 years Eligibility o Candidates who fulfil the criteria in Section 3 are eligible to apply for Full-Time PhD program under this category. Admission Process o Admission Schedule: Twice a year (July and January) 2021 22 Batch 2 PhD Guidelines, MET Test Pattern and Syllabus 4 o Candidates must appear for All India online PhD Manipal Entrance Test (MET) conducted by MAHE Manipal o Shortlisted candidates who qualify through PhD MET, will be subjected to an institute / department level interview.

8 O Candidates shortlisted through the interview process will be eligible for grant-in-aid instituted by MAHE Manipal under the Dr. TMA Pai PhD Scholarship programme. Course Fee o Refer Section 5 for PhD Course fees. Scholarship & Other Support o Refer Section 8 for Dr. TMA Pai Scholarships o Financial assistance to a maximum of Rs. 30,000 during the PhD program will be provided for presenting paper at national / international conference(s). This amount can be utilized within 4 years of admission or before thesis submission, whichever is earlier o Above facilities can be availed with prior approval from MAHE Manipal o Dr. TMA Pai Fellows will NOT accept additional salary / stipend, etc, from any other source during the tenure of the fellowship Category 3: Self Financed Duration: Minimum years from date of admission, Maximum 6 years Eligibility o Candidates who fulfil the criteria in Section 3 are eligible to apply for Full-Time PhD program under this category Admission Process o Admission Schedule: Twice a year o Candidates must appear for All India online PhD Manipal Entrance Test (MET) conducted by MAHE Manipal o Shortlisted candidates who qualify through PhD MET, will be subjected to an institute / department level interview.

This amount can be utilized within 4 years of admission or before thesis submission o Above facilities can be availed with prior approval from MAHE Manipal Category 4: Project Fellows Duration: 6 years maximum Eligibility o Project Fellows working under funded projects in Institutions / Departments and meeting the eligibility criteria specified in MAHE PhD guidelines, may apply for full-time PhD program under this category. Admission Process o Admission Schedule: Four times a year (January, April, July and October) o Project Fellows must appear for Institute / Department level test Exempted for GATE qualified candidates and those with assistant professorship o Shortlisted candidates will be called for Institute / Department level interview Email for more details on course fee structure & admission process.

10 2021 22 Batch 2 PhD Guidelines, MET Test Pattern and Syllabus 5 Category 5: Research Centres Eligibility o Candidates who work in research centres collaborating with MAHE Manipal, are eligible to apply for the full-time PhD program under this category. Email for more details on course fee structure & admission process. Duration of PhD The minimum duration for full-time PhD program is years ie; (3 years 6 months) from the date of admission for category 1, 2 and 3 o Date of provisional admission, is considered as the date of registration o The duration of the program will be calculated from the date of admission, till the award of degree o Extension beyond the minimum period will be based only on the recommendation of the Doctoral Advisory Committee (DAC).
