We discuss some explanations of the mechanism of Amontonand Coulomb's law, which holds well in various systems. The study of energydissipation process associated with dynamical friciton is also discussed. Newexperimental techniques that aim to observe the sliding surfaces and lubricantsbetween them are (i) (ii) (iii)
