8 The roles and tasks o f professionals around the globe are researched and d ocumented to defi ne e ach cert ificati on. The strength of PMI s certificati ons is that they are portable and not tied to any single method, stan dard or or ganization. PMI s certificati on pr ogram is designed to e nsure that al l cer tification holders have demonstrated thei r com petence through fair a nd valid measures. Steps are taken to ensure only the most reliable testing measures are used in t he assessment o f candidates. For exampl e, interviews can be influenced by how difficult the interviewer tends to be, how well the candidate is performing that d ay and even how many questions t he interviewer asks along the same li ne of questioning.

9 PMI certifications are also developed by pr actitio ners for pr actiti oner s. T he cert ification progra m is driven by the t housands o f certification hol ders who volunteer to spend time c onstructing and refining the exam questions. These volunteers represent t he diversity of PMI s market, co ming fro m every region of t he world, in dustry, j ob level and experience level. The exam questio ns are monitored thr ough industry-standard statistical proc edures, also overseen by vol unt eer s. PMI understands the importance of impartiality in carrying out its certification activities, manages conflict of interest and ensures the objectivity of its certification are assessed by examining t heir compet ence using: education and Experience A combination of education and/or experience is required for eachcert ification.
