2 If no satisfactory outcome is achieved the complaint should be referred to those in position to correct the situation. Where a childcare worker receives a complaint from a Parent , they should listen carefully to the nature and substance of the complaint. Give due consideration and full account to its content and advise the Parent of the formal and informal avenues to obtain consideration of the complaint. If the staff member is in any doubt of the appropriate action, they shall seek guidance from senior staff. Staff shall not make improper use of - 1. information imparted to them 2. their duties, status or authority. Staff shall work in ways that enhance human dignity and carry out their duties in a professional and conscientious manner. For parents : parents shall treat staff with respect and courtesy and without harassment.

3 parents shall become familiar with centre policies and Procedures . parents shall work collaboratively with their Child 's teachers to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for their Child . parents shall avoid behaviour which may be perceived as belittling or intimidating. Failure to comply with this code of conduct may result in your Child 's care being ceased or in the case of a staff member your employment being terminated. Behaviour considered a breech includes: Inappropriate language such as swearing, using demeaning language, or non- supportive language. Inappropriate conduct such as the consumption of alcohol in the presence of children and young people. Inappropriate use of facilities and resources such as sending inappropriate emails. Inappropriate contact with young children- no Parent or staff member shall strike a Child as a method of discipline.

4 Giving personal information about families / staff to people not authorized to have that information. Inappropriate gossip, malicious and negative talk and backstabbing is destructive and will not be tolerated. Reviewed Jan 2011. 2. Holland park Child Care Centre Philosophy 2011 Qiimaha qodobada Early Childhood is a precious part of life and period of incredible growth, change and joy for both families and children. Childhood should be a time where children have the opportunity to investigate, discover, learn and explore with wonder the amazing world around them. Children should be encouraged and have the opportunity to build stable relationships, the freedom to socialise and develop independence and the opportunity to grow and formulate ideas about the world as a whole. As Early Childhood professionals and as advocates for quality, play based early learning programs, we believe that children can learn and achieve best in a supportive, warm, challenging environment that allows for the full and healthy development of the individual.

5 We believe that this can only be achieved through creating a warm, homelike environment, by employing qualified early childhood professionals, through close collaboration with the families and the wider community and by valuing the unique contribution that each individual can make to the fabric of our centre. Our centre acknowledges that each person who enters our setting has something different and special to contribute; values and traditions, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender and experience. We respect and value these ideals and believe that incorporating these into our centre helps to encourage family and community unity. Our educational philosophy is centred around play being essentially work' for a Child and that this is the best way for children to learn about the world around them. As a whole centre, we support the ideal that play encourages children to develop essential skills that they will use for the rest of their lives and also help to instil a life long love of learning.

6 We feel that play is the foundation of a Child 's learning; active play, spontaneous play, voluntary play based on children's intrinsic needs, interests and logic. When play is used like this as the basis for learning, we believe children will have a stronger desire to learn as the process of learning becomes the focus rather then the outcome. We aim as part of our play based curriculum to also teach all children about tolerance, respect and understanding for others and encourage all who enter our centre to have the self-assurance and belief in being able to discourage bias and discrimination. It is therefore with strong conviction and great passion that we emphasise our belief that by nurturing and encouraging unique individuals to grow and develop, we will impart skills and confidence that will allow children to become healthy, well adjusted human beings with a desire to continue to learn.

7 The staff at Holland park Child Care Centre look forward to sharing the special moments and memories that we will share with your family as you become a part of our family! Aims, Objectives and Goals Holland park Child Care Centre aims to provide high quality early childhood education which values and supports the principles of our philosophy and create a rich learning environment. Our centre has made a commitment to a number of objectives : Effective communication between staff and families Acceptance of all families and welcoming all families regardless of family structure, ethnicity, beliefs or culture.

8 Creating a safe, comfortable, home like environment Nurturing children's desires to learn and explore Valuing the contribution that each person can make to the fabric of our centre. We are also guided at our centre by a set of common goals and guiding principles based on pur philosophy: Families are the primary caregivers of children and should be supported in their role through a wide range of accessible information and services. Parental involvement is encouraged and respected. Quality partnerships are built and sustained through open lines of communication. We encourage families to attend Parent nights, family events, to volunteer and watch daily slideshows where possible. We believe in continuity of experience; the principle of continuity of experience means that every experience both takes up something fro those which have gone before and modified in some way the quality of those that come John Dewey (1963).

9 All children in our centre have the right to gain access to quality play based experiences that will best support and scaffold their individual needs. That behaviour management should be consistent and promoted and role modelled on a daily basis. We believe that each Child has the right to feel safe and secure and that children should have opportunities to make mistakes and learn from these. That all children should be able to grow and learn in an environment that is safe, stimulating and age appropriate. Children should be given the opportunity to plan make choices and develop a sense of independence and confidence in their own abilities. Our Centre Parent Involvement We operate an OPEN DOOR Policy , where parents and family are welcome into the Centre at ANYTIME.

10 Parent participation sends strong positive messages to your childthat you support them and are part of the Child care environment. There are many levels of Parent . PARTICIPATION and we appreciate that time is of a premium for all parents , but we will be willing to accommodate any form of involvement you may desire to assist you and your Child , which will ultimately benefit the whole Centre. The staff sincerely wish for you and your Child to be happy and feel welcomed at our Centre. Be aware that a three way relationship between parents , care givers and the Child exists in this setting. Communication is a vital ingredient to the success of this partnership. We therefore encourage as much parental participation as possible. This is necessary and valuable in gaining input from you, to evaluate our service in accordance with the standards set by the NCAC.
