8- 9 PE Enrichment activities .. 10- 11 Rewards and Incentives .. 11 What is the purpose of P7 Intervention? Noel- Baker Academy s P7 intervention strategies and activities are used to tackle specific weaknesses or gaps in our pupils knowledge. We will thoroughly identify, as soon as possible, our pupils who would benefit from intervention in order to tackle difficulties and barriers to learning early on, rather than trying to help our pupils to catch up later. We will analyse closely the weaknesses in pupils knowledge, understanding and skills against the available intervention programmes and approaches, to ensure that the correct strategies are used. As a result, staff can establish specific intervention classes and these receive focused, high-quality teaching.

The quality of provision and teaching is carefully monitored by senior staff. Who receives P7 intervention? Pupils of all abilities receive intervention. We will monitor every pupil, whatever their learning needs are, and check on progress and support their learning so that they are able to make similar progress to their peers. We also encourage parents/carers to support their children in their learning, and there are various advice booklets or information evenings to help with this process. Peer mentoring Peer mentoring is very effective for some pupils. Sixth Form mentors support younger students during lunchtimes or at other times as arranged. Mentors offer advice and support to students in self-organisation, work, friendship difficulties etc.

And can recognise when students problems should be referred to a member of staff. The sixth form also take part in a range of activities in the main school; this includes supporting in lower school s lessons across a range of subjects. Involvement in a planned mentoring relationship has become a feature of the lives of considerable numbers of young people in UK schools in recent years. It is a concept that has great appeal and anecdotal reports have indicated that the experience of mentoring can be an enjoyable and positive experience for both mentors and mentees. On the face of it, mentoring appears to be a common sense approach to the complex array of issues and difficulties that face young people. 5 3 How else will P7 be used? Year 11 P7 intervention We would expect all of our year 11 pupils to attend P7 intervention 3 times a week. This would equate to an extra 13 to 14 hours of learning between October 2017 and May 2018. Year 11 PiXL The PiXL strategy will run for a second year at Noel- Baker Academy. Each of PiXL s programmes provides a wealth of classroom strategies and resources for pupils and is tailored to every individual. Year 10 Master classes Pupils have access to broadening and deepening their knowledge in all subject areas. Year 12 Masterclasses We host a range of subject-specific masterclasses offering pupils a taste of learning at university, and are designed to help you decide what area of study you would like to pursue at degree level.

They give you an insight in to your chosen subject, and so provide an excellent example to include in your personal statement. We will be inviting universities into Noel- Baker to support this programme. Year 9 Booster sessions These sessions have been designed to support the teaching of Year 9 in the run up to their start to Key stage 4. Pupils will have chosen their options and along with sessions in the core subjects: English, mathematics and science, pupils can choose which booster classes to attend to enable them to be year 10 ready. Year 7- 11 Catch up activities The catch up sessions are an effective way to help accelerate pupil s academic achievement. Whether pupils missed a lesson, want to improve their depth of knowledge or need help with coursework then catch up sessions will provide them with one to one tuition from a range of staff in each faculty.

Years 7- 11 Enrichment activities Enrichment activities allows pupils to gain experience and skills in areas not typically part of their everyday curriculum. These can enhance their personal attributes by opting to gain new experiences which are extremely desirable to future employers. There are many different enrichments activates available and pupils can find constructive and enjoyable activities to take part in every week. Enrichment activities offer an ideal opportunity to make new friends and try something new. They also help pupils to develop skills and qualities valued by employers and will help to boost their CV and applications. Years 12- 13 Enrichment activities- Peer mentoring Mentors will provide individual and group support from the initial stages of their life at Key stage 5.

They will be selected and given training to ensure that they have the skills necessary to support young people who might be daunted by some of the obstacles they face during their transition from Primary to Secondary school and beyond. This opportunity encourages Year 12 and 13 pupils to play a responsible role in the school community and ensures that new pupils are secure in the knowledge that there are always older pupils available and willing to help them. The structure of Year 11 P7 Intervention Year 11 P7 Intervention will operate over a two-week period during P7.
