Authorised by: Director, Human Resources Original Issue: 01/11/2009 Document owner: Manager, HR Shared Services Current Version: 01/05/2017 Page 2 of 6 CRICOS Provider No. 00103D | RTO Number 4909 Position description Position Summary The Manager, Health and wellbeing reports to the Director of Student Connect and is responsible for the management and delivery of all Health and wellbeing services which include: Student Counselling Service Disability and Learning Access Unit (DLAU); Health; Student Financial Support; and Chaplaincy. The Manager, Health and wellbeing will provide strong and consistent leadership to the Health and wellbeing staff to deliver innovative, pro-active and responsive programs and services across the VET and Higher Education (HE) divisions of the University, and across all campuses.
3 The Manager, Health and wellbeing will contribute to University retention and success initiative and is responsible for providing key advice to senior University staff and government agencies on issues of student health, wellbeing and welfare issues. The Manager, Health and wellbeing also holds the role of managing and developing the University s Safer Campuses Initiative program to ensure that the University is ethically responding to reports of behaviours of concern that have the potential to compromise the safety of students, staff, and/or visitors to the University, or University property. The Manager, Health and wellbeing is a member of the Student Connect Leadership Team and may deputise for the Director, Student Connect for Critical Incident Management in the Director s absence.
4 Key Responsibilities 1. Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous review of the strategic and operational directions for the Counselling, DLAU, Health, and Chaplaincy services for both VET and HE divisions across all campuses, and align these strategic and operational directions to the Student Connect strategic priorities. 2. Provide leadership and individualised development to Coordinators of the Counselling, DLAU, Health, and Chaplaincy services, with a focus on building the capacity of the individual leaders, enhancing collaboration across University services, and empowering coordinators to strive for best practice in the delivery of health and wellbeing services. 3. Ensure all Health and wellbeing services are delivered within relevant professional and ethical standards applicable to each area and foster a culture of ongoing competency and currency of professional practice.

Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous review of policies and procedures relevant to Health and wellbeing services, including, but not limited to, all procedures associated with the Access, Progression and wellbeing Policy, and the Student Financial Assistance Policy. 5. Manage budgets related to all Health and wellbeing Services including regular liaison with the Coordinator, Disability Services in relation to DLAU reasonable adjustment costs. Responsible for the operations of the University s support services database to ensure that client records are kept according to relevant government legislation (Privacy Act, Health Records Act) and uphold the strict principles of confidentiality in relation to the sensitive information contained.
6 Also, guide service delivery areas to continually improve their record keeping and reporting practices by working with the database support staff to tailor database functionality to suit specific needs. 7. Develop, maintain and review performance and professional development plans for staff and ensure appropriate staff development and communication by determining team priorities, providing training and development, managing performance and building team and individual capacity in-line with University and Student Connect priorities. 8. Manage the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous review of the University s Safer Campuses Initiative ensuring that the University responds appropriately and in a timely manner to any reported behaviours of concern and including the centralised recording of behaviours of concern, data analysis and reporting.

Provide specialised supervision to staff within other areas of Student Connect (Student Advisory Service, Careers and Employment, etc.) regarding complex client-related issues that arise in those service areas. This type of supervision to be scheduled on a regular or ad- hoc basis to meet the needs of the staff in those areas. 10. 8 Level of Supervision and Responsibility The Manager, Health and wellbeing , reports directly to the Director, Student Connect and will provide leadership to the Counselling, DLAU, Health, Financial Support and Chaplaincy services by setting goals and objectives with measurable performance outcomes. The Manager works under the broad direction of the Director, Student Connect and operates with a considerable degree of autonomy in leading the health and wellbeing strategies University-wide. The Manager, Health and wellbeing manages the specialist services through the coordinators of each are: Counselling, DLAU, and Health. The manager is also responsible for ensuring clinical and case supervision is conducted in accordance with relevant professional standards and codes of ethics.
9 The Manager will operate in specific areas where complex problem solving occurs in relation to student welfare, crisis management, and human resource issues; and will often operate in accordance with strict codes of confidentiality. The Manager will be privy to private and confidential information about issues and/or individuals and will need the ability to understand the need for diplomacy and discretion. Page 4 of 6 CRICOS Provider No. 00103D | RTO Number 4909 Position description The Manager, Health and wellbeing requires knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements, including, but not limited to, the Disability Discrimination Act (1992), the Disability Standards for Education (2005), and the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Acts.
10 Training and Qualifications A relevant post-graduate qualification and extensive management experience in health and wellbeing environments; or extensive welfare and support service management experience and proven business management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. All University positions delivering education and/or services to children (a child for this purpose is considered to be someone below the age of 18 years) must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). Position /Organisational Relationships The Manager, Health and wellbeing is expected to develop strong working relationships with all other services within the Student Connect directorate, along with the establishment and maintenance of relationships with a number of services/areas of the the University, including, but not limited to: Senior management; School staff in both the VET and HE divisions; and Administrative staff and professional staff; The Manager, Health and wellbeing is also expected to develop positive relationships with key external stakeholders from government and non-government agencies in Australia.
