Diabetics and individuals under a doctor's care are encouraged to consult your physician concerning the fast. At the end of the Consecration Period, take two days to transition back into your regular diet, by eating non-heavy foods and drinking plenty of liquids. IMPORTANCE OF WATER. Drink plenty of water daily. While FASTING , the body has more waste to get rid of. This is why it is important to consume appropriate amounts of water during the fast. Water intake: Morning: Drink 1 quart of water over a 30 minute period. Noon: Drink 1 quart of water over a 30 minute period. Evening: Drink 1 quart of water between 5 pm and 6 pm. The overweight person needs to consume an additional glass of water for every 25 pounds of excess weight. In addition, when the body is thirsty, water should be taken immediately.

This drinking schedule brings the body's fluids into balance. This causes more fat to be used as Page 7. fuel. It alleviates fluid retention, helps maintain muscle tone and causes a natural decrease in appetite. When the body's fluids are balanced, the body does not require or crave food as much as when it is out of balance. CONSECRATION OBSERVATIONS. During the Consecration Period, please observe the following: Determine the one thing that you will abstain from during the 21 day consecration. (Ex. TV, social media, social activities, etc.). Increase PRAYER time. Maintain a DAILY PRAYER /consecration journal to include your petitions, scriptures read, daily activity and any inspiration given or revealed to you by the Lord. Tithe at least two hours and forty minutes each day through PRAYER , study of the Word, meditation or just being still.

Avoid secular TV, radio and magazines. (Options include Inspirational and spiritual enhancement viewing and READING .). Limit and/or avoid excessive social telephone calls. Limit or alleviate all social media activity that does not glorify God or edify believers. (Do not allow yourself to become distracted by distractible vices. Everybody you have befriended and converse with through social media may not share nor honor your time of Consecration. However, if you feel impressed of God to share an inspiration, be lead of God in your sharing, and remain focused.). Try to include some type of fitness activity walking, daily stretching and deep breathing, floor exercises, light weights, etc. Married couples do not deprive one another except with consent for a time (1 Corinthians 7:5a).

Parents are encouraged to include expanded time with their children during the consecration period, and to share with them the essence of denial and discipline as a part of a vibrant relationship with God. This includes limited access to video games and abstinence from fast foods. Pray, not so much for things, but to know God better. Be specific in your PRAYER petitions Page 8. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FASTING . Isaiah 58:1-14 and Matthew 6:16-18. FASTING should be accompanied by the following: Self Denial (Deuteronomy 9:18). Confession of Sin (1 Samuel 7:6; Nehemiah 9:1-2). Mourning (Joel 2:12-13). READING the Scriptures (Jeremiah 36:6). PRAYER (Daniel 9:3). FASTING requires our limiting or completely denying intake of food, drink or both for a period of time, and is done with a desire for some accomplishment.

Its significance is in how you approach it and what you do with it. However, recognize that if you fast, you will benefit physically as well as spiritually. There is no doubt that for the average, a healthy person's FASTING results in good health in that FASTING cleanses the system the digestive, circulatory, nervous and other systems. But in addition to the physical benefit and value of FASTING , FASTING has a great spiritual value. Isaiah 58 is entirely devoted to the subject of FASTING . It allows us to know that we fast to break the yokes of bondage and to let the oppressed go free. When we fast like God instructs us to, we get closer to Him and our lands are healed. When consecrating and FASTING , you must remind yourself throughout the fast that Christ suffered for our sins.

Thus Christians fast as a reminder of their goals of spirituality and growth. This is nothing new, but it is a Christian tradition as old as the call of God. In Old Testament times, FASTING was a part of life. David wrote in Psalm 35, I humbled myself with FASTING In Leviticus 16, when the law regarding the Day of Atonement was given, that day was called a day of FASTING . On that great day the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies on behalf of the people to bring God a sacrifice representing the repented, humble spirits of the people. Page 9. In later times, when Luke wrote about FASTING , recorded in Acts 27, he called it the fast day. In the Old Testament writings, Ezra called fasts at the time of the reconstruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. Esther called a seventy-two hour fast when her people stood in jeopardy because of the edict of the king.
