5 The pressure and temperature limits in this Bulletin and in any applicable standard or code limitation should not be Do not exceed the thrust limits in this Includes diaphragm casing seals, casing-mounted handwheel on 657, seal bushing on ConfigurationsDirect ActionAll 657 Actuators are direct acting. Applying airpressure to the upper diaphragm casing forces theactuator stem downward. When this pressure isreduced, the opposing spring force moves theactuator stem upward. Should the loading pressurefail, the spring forces the stem to the extreme upwardposition. This provides fail-open action forpush-down-to-close valves and fail-closed action forpush-down-to-open A direct-acting actuator used on sliding-stemvalves.

6 Available in sizes 30 through 100. See figures 1,2, 5, and A 657 actuator in sizes 70 and 87, designedwith 102 mm (4-inch) ActionAll 667 Actuators are reverse acting. Applying airpressure to the lower diaphragm casing forces theactuator stem upward against the opposing springforce. When this loading pressure is reduced, thespring moves the actuator stem downward. Shouldthe loading pressure fail, the spring forces the stem tothe extreme downward position. The actuatorsprovide fail-closed action for push-down-to-closevalves and fail-open action for A reverse-acting actuator used on sliding-stemvalves. Available in sizes 30 through 100 and 76. 7 They also provide a readymeans of positioning the control valve in anemergency. The specifications in tables 5 and 6 applyto handwheels on both 657 and 667 Series repeated or daily manual operation, the unitshould be equipped with a side-mounted Handwheels Typical 657 and 667actuators with handwheels mounted on thediaphragm case are shown in figure 2 (not available ona 667 actuator , size 80). On the 657 actuator , thehandwheel can be set to limit the travel in the upwarddirection; on the 667 actuator , travel in the downwarddirection can be restricted. A P-2 travel stop (figure 4)is available for a 667 actuator , sizes 45-60 to limittravel in either the upward or downward directions. Anactuator with a P-2 travel stop is limited to a maximumtravel of 19 mm ( inch).

8 The handwheel on the size100 is similar in function to those on the smaller sizes, but it uses a gear drive similar to the drive employedon the integral side-mounted handwheels (see figure2).Clockwise rotation of the handwheel on the 657actuator moves the actuator stem downward, compressing the spring. Spring action returns thestem as the handwheel is turned the 667 actuator , counterclockwise rotationmoves the stem upward, and spring action returns thestem on clockwise Handwheels Figure 3 shows theside-mounted handwheels (designated by the lettersMO) applicable to sizes 34 through 87, 657 and 667actuators. Size 30 Actuators do not have aside-mounted handwheel side-mounted handwheels can be used to strokethe valve in either direction at any point in the actuatorstem travel.

9 Unlike the top-mounted handwheel, theside-mounted handwheel can be positioned to limittravel in either direction, but not both at the sametime. With the handwheel in the neutral position, automatic operation is possible throughout full valvetravel. In any other position, valve travel will berestricted. The handwheel is furnished with aspring-loaded ball detent which prevents vibrationfrom changing the Travel StopsTop-mounted adjustable travel stops are available for657 and 667 Series Actuators . They are used to limittravel in the up, down, or up and down 4 illustrates the different constructions. Table 7locates the different style constructions with actuatortype and such as transducers, positioners, positiontransmitters, air relays, volume boosters, switchingvalves, lockup valves, limit switches, and solenoidvalves are also available for actuator mounting.
