The joint width shall be 10 mmand 50 mm. A width to depth ratio of 2 : 1 must be maintained (for ex-ceptions, see table below). Standard joint widths for joints between concrete element:(Movement Capability: 35 % (ASTM C719) and T: 80 C)Joint distance [m]Min. joint width [mm]Min. joint depth [mm]21010412106181082211102814 For larger joints following depth should be maintained:Joint width [mm]Joint depth [mm]30153518402045215022 All joints must be correctly designed and dimensioned in accordance withthe relevant standards, before their construction.
The basis for calculationof the necessary joint widths are the type of structure and its dimensions, the technical values of the adjacent building materials and the joint sealingmaterial, as well as the specific exposure of the building and the more detailed advice and instructions please contact our Technical De-partment. 4 sikaflex Construction+ adheres withoutprimers and/or , for optimum adhesion and critical, high per-formance applications, such as on multi-story build-ings, highly stressed joints, extreme weather exposureor water immersion, the following priming and/or pre-treatment procedures shall be followed: Porous substratesConcrete, aerated concrete and cement basedrenders, mortars and bricks shall be primed usingSika Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 4 hours). Non-porous substratesAluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, gal-vanised steel, powder coated metals or glazed tileshave to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika Aktiv-ator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 15 minutes (< 2 hours).Other metals, such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc,also have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel.
After thenecessary flash-off time, use a brush to apply Sika Primer-3 N and allow a further flash-off time of > 30minutes (< 4 hours) before sealing the has to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika Primer-215 applied with a brush. Before sealing, allowa flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 4 hours). For more detailed advice and instructions please con-tact our Technical : Primers are adhesion promoters. They areneither a substitute for the correct cleaning of a sur-face, nor do they improve the strength of the surfacesignificantly. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLSS ikaflex Construction+ is supplied ready to the necessary substrate preparation, insert asuitable backing rod to the required depth and applyany primer if necessary. Insert a foil pack into the seal-ant gun and extrude sikaflex Construction+ into thejoint making sure that it comes into full contact withthe sides of the joint and avoid any air Construction+ sealant must be firmly tooledagainst the joint sides to ensure adequate is recommended to use masking tape where exactjoint lines or neat lines are required.
Remove the tapewithin the skin time. Use a compatible tooling agent(example Sika Tooling Agent N) to smooth the jointsurfaces. Do not use tooling products sikaflex Construction+ is dry-tooled it shows aslightly structured, concrete-like surface. If it is wet-tooled (using a compatible tooling agent, exampleSika Tooling Agent N) it shows a smooth OF EQUIPMENTC lean all tools and application equipment immediatelyafter use with Sika Remover-208 and/or Sika Top-Clean T. Once cured, residual material can only be re-moved INFORMATIONM aterial Data SHEET (SDS) Pre-treatment Chart Sealing & Bonding Method Statement Joint Sealing Method Statement Joint Maintenance, Cleaning andRenovation Technical Manual Facade Sealing PRODUCT Data SheetSikaflex Construction+ July 2016, Version / 4 IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONSS ikaflex Construction+ can be over-painted withmost conventional facade coating paint , paints must first be tested to ensure com-patibility by carrying out preliminary trials (exampleaccording to ISO technical paper: Paintability andPaint Compatibility of Sealants).
The best over-paint-ing results are obtained when the sealant is allowedto fully cure first. Note: non-flexible paint systemsmay impair the elasticity of the sealant and lead tocracking of the paint film. Colour variations may occur due to exposure tochemicals, high temperatures and/or UV-radiation(especially with the colour shade white). However, achange in colour is purely of aesthetic nature anddoes not adversely influence the technical perform-ance or durability of the PRODUCT . Do not use sikaflex Construction+ on natural stone. Do not use sikaflex Construction+ on bituminoussubstrates, natural rubber, EPDM rubber or on anybuilding materials which might bleed oils, plasticizersor solvents that could attack the sealant. Do not use sikaflex Construction+ to seal joints inand around swimming pools. Do not use sikaflex Construction+ for joints underwater pressure or for permanent water immersion.
Do not expose uncured sikaflex Construction+ to al-cohol containing products as this may interfere withthe curing reaction.
