2 He was recently Visiting Professor of Humanities at the University of Pune/India (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011), The Latvian Academy of Culture in Riga (Sept. 2004 May 2005), and he has been teaching "Intellectual History of Greek Antiquity" at both the Jawaharlal Nehru and Delhi Universities (February/. March 2006), as well as The Politics of European Integration at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in Chennai/India (Spring 2006). His areas of specialization are Continental European Philosophy, especially Political Philosophy, from Greek Antiquity to the present, Existentialism and Marxism, as well as Theory of Literature, Theory of Culture, and Cultural Foreign Policy (Ausw rtige Kulturpolitik). His major publications include two studies on Heidegger and one each on German Socialism in the 19th century, and Cultural Foreign Policy.

3 He is currently working on the critique of early capitalism in the works of Marx, Goethe, and Balzac, the reception of Heidegger's philosophy in France, and a comprehensive reassessment of the life and works of Albert Camus. 2. Parallel to his academic career, Dr. Stassen has been a leading representative of germany 's foreign cultural and educational policy, having served, inter alia, as DAAD Director for North America in New York (1981- 1990) and for South Asia in New Delhi (1994 1998), respectively. 2. He was one of the pioneers of European Higher Education Policy having served, from 1976 to 1981, as Chairman of the Committees on International Academic Mobility of both the European Community and the Council of Europe. Currently, he serves as consultant on matters of the internationalization of Higher Education and curricular reform in the Humanities for some of the new member states of the EU, as well as on several accreditation committees for courses of study in the Humanities and Cultural Studies across Eastern Europe and South Asia.

4 Since 2007, he has been Member of the Board of Trustees, and editor of the publication series, of the Association Tipasa- Rencontres M diterran ennes Albert Camus (RMAC) in Lourmarin/France. 3. In his political work, Dr. Stassen focuses on issues such as higher education reform, the cultural implications of globalization, the relationship of religion to politics, as well as the causes of, and therapies against, right-wing violence and xenophobia. 4. Dr. Stassen has received several international awards for his research and teaching in the Humanities on several continents, as well as for his work, of some thirty years, as a practitioner of international academic, scientific, and cultural exchange. He is multilingual and a frequently invited speaker around the world.
