Transcription of Psalm 103 (Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow)

Book of Psalms Psalm 103. praise God from whom All Blessings Flow There are no prayer requests in this Psalm of David, only words of praise . God's people have so much to praise Him for. We need to read this Psalm often so we will remember to praise God always for who He is and what He does for us. The heart of worship can be described as our entire being gratefully praising God for all He is and all He does. To worship God is to bless the One who blesses us. Praising God is both a high privilege and a compelling responsibility. 1. A reminder to praise God (vs. 1-2). For emphasis David repeated his personal call to praise the Lord (Yahweh, I AM).

A. Bless His holy name David's praise was personal (O my soul) and passionate (all that is within me). This would include his heart, soul, and mind (Mt. 22:36-37). We bless or praise God for who He is. His name represents His being and character. We should bless the One who richly blesses us (Eph. 1:3). B. Remember all His benefits We think of the song, Count your Blessings , name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. We should take time to consider every blessing the Lord provides for us. These opening verses introduce the main section of the Psalm which identifies some of God's magnificent Blessings .

2. Many reasons to praise God (vs. 3-18). A. God provides forgiveness David saw himself in the courtroom where the Judge pardoned all his iniquities. Iniquity is something bent or warped. God is absolutely right and perfect, but we are warped in our thinking, our attitudes, and our actions. The first and foremost blessing is forgiveness of sins. B. God provides healing David saw himself in the sick room and the Great Physician healed all his diseases. There is no guarantee that God will heal every sickness, but whenever healing comes, it always comes from Him. God can heal instantly or over time.

He can heal by way of miracle or medicine. He can heal directly or through doctors and caregivers. In all cases, we should give God the praise He richly deserves. C. God provides redemption David saw himself in the pit of sin. A pit is dark, confining, and enslaving. It is a graphic picture of sin and its consequences. Only God can rescue us from eternal destruction (in Hell). D. God provides love and tender mercies David saw himself in the throne room as part of the royal family. He was crowned not with a literal crown of gold or diamonds, but with something far more valuable, loving-kindness and tender mercies.

Lamentations 3:22-23 22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Loving-kindness is the word used for God's loyal, covenant love. E. God provides real satisfaction David saw himself in the dining room. God provides nourishment and strength for the weak and weary. Our life soars because the burden of sin has been lifted and we have renewed strength for life's journey. Isaiah 40:31. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The Lord renews us daily with inner strength, 2 corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. F. God provides protection David saw himself in the valley of persecution and suffering (vs. 6-7). God intervenes on behalf of those who are wrongly oppressed. The prime Old Testament example of this was God's care for Moses and His people in Egypt and during their wilderness journeys. G. God provides mercy This section (vs. 8-18) is perhaps the greatest description of forgiveness in the Bible. God does not deal with us on the basis of swift justice and punishment.

If so, no one could stand in His sight. Psalms 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? The focus on these verses is God's mercy. In grace God gives us what we don't deserve and in mercy He doesn't give us what we do deserve. His mercy is undeserved (vs. 9-10) He withholds judgment and doesn't punish us for our sins. Christ's sacrifice has satisfied God's wrath (propitiation) and believers are no longer condemned for their sins (Rom. 8:1). His mercy is unlimited (vs. 11-12) God's mercy is infinitely high and wide. His mercy is unconditional (vs.)

13-14) As dear children God pities us and remembers how frail we are. His mercy is unending (vs. 15-18) Man is temporary like the grass, but God's mercy is eternal. This part of the Psalm also describes the people who receive God's mercy as those who fear Him. They also keep His covenant and do His commandments (vs. 18). No one is saved by obeying the Lord, but obedience is clear evidence of genuine salvation. 3. The realm of praising God (vs. 19-22). Since God rules over all things and His kingdom is everlasting, and since He rules all things with great wisdom and care, all beings everywhere should praise Him.

As the absolute sovereign Lord of the universe, He is worthy of all praise that His creatures can offer. A. All holy angels should praise God (vs. 20-21) Angels exist to do God's will and obey His word. God's angelic host (army) does what pleases Him because they understand He is worthy of their total submission and praise (Rev. 5:11-12). B. All created things should praise God (vs. 22a) See Psalm 148:1-14. C. All redeemed people should praise God (vs. 22b). A missionary to South America visited a remote part of the Amazon jungle. He talked with an Indian who had recently been saved.

Through a translator he asked, What is your favorite thing to do? He expected an answer like hunting or fishing, but he replied, My favorite thing is to be occupied with God. Bless the Lord, O my soul, bless His holy name. Book of Psalms Psalm 103. praise God from whom All Blessings Flow There are no prayer requests in this Psalm of David, only words of praise .
