2 Public Health Advisers ( school Health ), under supervision, with some latitudefor independent judgement, initiative, and unreviewed action and decision, support medical and/or professionalstaff in schools by performing Health -related duties, apply disease control and/or Health promotion principlesand methods, including interviewing, investigating, case management, and referrals; enter and reviewepidemiological data; and conduct Health risk assessments of varying degrees of difficulty in a school healthprogram, ranging from basic case management to assisting supervisory personnel in the planning, organizingand conduct of Health promotion activities.

3 All Public Health Advisers ( school Health ) perform related workand may perform duties in other Public Health programs, as Working Conditions: Some of the physical activities performed by Public Health Advisers (SchoolHealth) and environmental conditions experienced are: traveling to all areas of the City by Public transportation,car and/or by foot; visiting clinics, hospitals, doctors, nurses, laboratories, schools, correctional facilities,work sites, and homes of communicable disease clients and their contacts; walking up as many as six flightsof stairs; carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 13 pounds from vehicles to the site and back; inaccordance with infection control guidelines, handling bodily fluids such as blood and sputum, and wearingprotective garments such as surgical gloves and masks.

4 (This is a brief description of what you might do in this position and does not include all the duties of thisposition.)THE SALARY: The current minimum salary is $ per hour. This rate is subject to change. There are twoassignment levels within this class of positions. Follow all instructions on the Special Circumstances formthat pertain to you when you complete your "Application for examination ."Exam No. 1030 - Page 2 HOW TO QUALIFY:Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by twelvesemester credits in Health education or in Health , social or biological sciences.

7 Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and six months of full-timesatisfactory experience in a Health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performingone or more of the following: interviewing, conducting field investigations, assessing Health risks,making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data; four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department ofEducation or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of full-time satisfactory experienceas described in 2 above; and/or experience equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 above.

8 Undergraduate college credit canbe substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one yearof full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or itseducational equivalent, and either twelve semester credits as described in 1 above or six months ofexperience as described in 2 above. The college or university must be accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agenciesrecognized as accrediting bodies by the Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher EducationAccreditation (CHEA).

9 REQUIREMENTS TO BE APPOINTED:Medical Requirement: Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Public Health Adviser (School Health ). Candidates will be examined to determine whether they can perform the essential functionsof the position of Public Health Adviser ( school Health ). Where appropriate, a reasonable accommodation willbe provided for a person with a disability to enable him or her to take the examination , and/or to perform theessential functions of the job.
