It has been designed and con-structed with the intent of obtaining maximum confidencein the materials with minimum test redundancy. This stan-dard covers: The Qualification and Qualification retention of the confor-mal coating material (Table 3-1, Column A and B). The quality conformance of conformal coating materialproperties (Table 3-1, Column C).For the purpose of this standard, the term conformal coat-ing is used herein when referring to a type of protectivecoating for use on printed wiring assemblies. The confor-mal coating is intended to provide protection from moistureand contamination and provide Electrical insulation; not asa sole source of mechanical the purpose of this standard, inspections are performedon standardized test vehicles instead of real productionassemblies.
4 A standardized test vehicle refers to the testvehicle specified per test method indicated, coated with theconformal coating under PurposeWith standardized testing on standardizedtest vehicles under test conditions specified in test methodslisted herein, this standard enables a manufacturer toqualify his conformal coating product and express thequalification it possesses. This standard also enables themanufacturer to attest the conformance of the quality ofproduction to the Qualification of each TypesConformal coatingsshallbe categorizedinto types by the cured chemistry of the coating. The typefor multifunctional materialsshallbe based on the chemis-try type which is the highest percentage by coatingsshallbe of the following types:Type AR AcrylicType ER EpoxyType SR SiliconeType UR PolyurethaneType XY ClassesAlthough previous versions of IPC-CC-830 made reference to Class A and Class B coating classi-fications, these classifications have been removed.
