Pressure Alert Valves (PAV ),standard on 6" and larger Closures ,provide warning of internal , the threaded designmakes yale Closures among thesafest in the industry. For example, if pressure was trapped behind thecap of the closure, it would beextremely difficult to unscrew the capbecause of the thread , if the cap was rotated lessthan 1/4turn, the pressure energizedO-ring would relax and the trappedpressure would bleed around the threads. At this point, therewould still be over 90% ofthread engagement holding the cap onto the Alert Valve (PAV )A Pressure Alert Valve (PAV ) is furnished as standard equipmenton all 6" and larger Closures (may bepurchased as an option on smallersizes).

5 The PAV is installed on theclosure hub. A chain attaches thePAV stem to the closure cap (see photo below). Before the cap can be rotated, the valve stem must beremoved from the PAV body. Thisaction is designed to warn the opera-tor of any residual pressure in thevessel before the closure cap is loosened. The PAV is NOT designedto function as a bleed down orblowdown Weldable HubsThe closure hub is field weldableusing welding instructions furnishedwith each closure. When attaching theclosure hub to high-strength, thin-wallpipe, the of the hub weld bevelcan be increased to compensate for the different Specified Minimum YieldStrengths (SMYS) as recommended inASME , and other pipelinecodes. Horizontal Closures are equipped withside arm hinges or jib arm hinges dependingon closure size and pressure arm hinges are hinged on the leftside (facing the closure) unless arm hinges will permit the cap to swing to either side after Opening , thus providing greater installation andoperational flexibility.

All closure hinges are adjusted at thefactory to support the entire weight of theclosure cap. This prevents the cap fromresting on the threads of the mating huband allows even the heaviest of caps to be easily rotated off and on the threadedhub. If field adjustment is necessary, thehorizontal jib and the 26" and larger verticaldavit have adjustment in two planes per-mitting fast, positive positioning of thecap relative to the hub.
