Its mission is to protect and promote Australia s vital interests through the provision of intelligence services as directed by the Government. Its work can involve collecting intelligence relating to national security, international relations and economic issues. It also contributes to Australia s coordinated national efforts against terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and trans-national issues such as people smuggling. As the Manager of Protocol you will be responsible for the Protocol team, coordinating and facilitating engagement with foreign liaisons, providing contemporary protocol advice in step with broader Australian government practices.

2 You represent one of the public faces of ASIS setting the standard for professional engagement. You will provide event management support to ASIS, and coordinate with other departments during multi-agency events. You will have advanced communication and representation skills and a proven ability to plan and manage complex activities. Your interpersonal skills will be critical, working with a diverse set of stakeholders across the organisation, the Australian Intelligence Community, and the Foreign Liaison office cadre. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS Outlined below are the key areas of responsibility for the Manager of Protocol: Build and sustain internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and customers; Apply your specialist knowledge to provide professional and contemporary protocol and event management advice; Deliver high level customer service in an environment of frequently changing priorities and demands; Develop and implement measures to enhance Protocol s customer service delivery; Provide advice to the broader organisation regarding cultural and social sensitivities; Manage a small team effectively in accordance with ASIS values; Manage and monitor resources, time, budgets and activities; and Mentor staff and encourage their professional development.

3 EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE The following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded: Demonstrated background in Australian government protocol practices; Demonstrated experience in dealing with cultural sensitivities; Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills, organisational and presentation skills; and Familiarity with the Australian Intelligence Community and/or comparable experience with national security or international relations matters.
