Thisservice information includes a general description of therecloser and operating principles as well as instructionsfor periodic inspection, testing, and shop repairs.

7 Ser-vice parts lists, keyed to exploded view-drawings of theunit, along with ordering information are included in available VXE Service Information is as follows: S280-16-1 Types VXE15 and VXE27 ElectronicallyControlled, Single-Phase recloser Installation andOperation Instructions S280-16-3 Kyle VXE Electronic Control SCADAI nput/Output Board Installation and OperationInstructions S280-16-4 Type VXE Electronic recloser ControlTester Operation InstructionsDescriptionThe Type VXE recloser is a self-contained, single-phasecurrent interrupting device that protects distribution linesand equipment. A complete unit consists of a VXErecloser and a separate control, housed in a cabinet, connected to the recloser with a control VXE recloser control uses solid state electronics toprovide accuracy, reliability, and flexibility for overcurrentsensing and trip timing.

8 The electronic circuits arehoused in a separate weather-proof cabinet that can beattached to the recloser tank or mounted up to 100 feetaway and connected to the recloser with a control VXE recloser senses line current and automaticallyinterrupts the phase of the distribution circuit to which itis connected when line current exceeds the pro-grammed minimum trip level. It then automaticallyrecloses to restore service and monitors the line todetermine if the fault has been cleared. If the fault is per-manent, the recloser locks out after one, two, three, orfour preset trip operations. Once locked-out, the reclosermust be manually reset to restore reset the recloser , pull down the manual operatinghandle; then, raise it up until it latches into :The recloser can be reset remotely if equipped withthe SCADA Input/Output accessory board, via theremote close feature.

9 Refer to Service InformationS280-16-3 Kyle Type VXE Electronic Control SCADAI nput/Output Board Installation and Operation Instruc-tionsfor additional the fault clear before lockout, the recloser willreset automatically after the selected reset time recloser can also be set for non-reclosing operation(lockout after the first trip operation) with a manuallyoperated external non-reclosing :The recloser can be remotely set for non-reclosingoperation if equipped with the SCADA Input/Outputaccessory board, via the remote non-reclosing to Service Information S280-16-3 Kyle TypeVXE Electronic Control SCADA Input/Output BoardInstallation and Operation Instructionsfor trip operations of the recloser can be all fast, alldelayed, or a combination of fast and delayed with amaximum of four operations to lockout.
