Baton Rouge, LA 70807 USA PMS, para-Vinyl Toluene para-Methyl styrene Page 2 of 12 SDS Preparation Date (mm/dd/yyyy): 08/12/2015 SAFETY DATA SHEET Flammable liquid and vapor. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. May cause respiratory irritation. May cause genetic defects. Obtain special instructions before use. Do not handle until all SAFETY precautions have been read and understood. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. - No smoking. Keep container tightly closed. Ground/Bond container and receiving equipment. Use explosion-proof electrical and ventilating equipment.
Use only non-sparking tools. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Avoid breathing mist or vapours. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Wear protective gloves/clothing and eye/face protection. In case of fire: Use carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam to extinguish. If exposed or concerned: Get medical attention/advice. IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTRE or doctor/physician. Do NOT induce vomiting. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. If inhaled: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed. Keep cool. Store locked up. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local regulation. Precautionary statement(s) Other hazards No OSHA defined hazard classes. Other hazards which do not result in classification: May polymerize when heated or on contact with incompatible materials. Polymerization is a highly exothermic reaction and may generate sufficient heat to cause thermal decomposition and/or rupture containers. Burning produces obnoxious and toxic fumes. Direct skin contact may cause slight or mild, transient irritation. Direct eye contact may cause slight or mild, transient irritation.
Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Inhalation of high concentrations may cause dizziness, disorientation, incoordination, narcosis, nausea or narcotic effects. Prolonged or repeated contact may cause drying, cracking and defatting of the skin. Environmental precautions: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Avoid release to the environment. FIRST-AID MEASURES Description of first aid measures IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTRE or doctor/physician. Do NOT induce vomiting. Aspiration hazard - material may cause lung inflammation or damage if it enters lungs through vomiting or swallowing. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, keep victim's head lowered (forward) to reduce the risk of aspiration. : Ingestion If inhaled: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing.
Call a POISON CENTRE or doctor/physician if you feel unwell. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen by qualified medical personnel only. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. : Inhalation IF ON SKIN (or hair): Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. Skin contact : Flush eyes thoroughly with running water for at least 20 minutes, holding eyelids open to ensure complete flushing. If easy to do, remove contact lens, if worn. Eye contact : Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed May be an aspiration hazard. Aspiration into the lungs during swallowing or subsequent vomiting may cause chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal.
Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Ingestion of larger amounts may cause defects to the central nervous system ( dizziness, headache). Direct skin contact may cause slight or mild, transient irritation. Symptoms may include redness, itching and swelling. Direct eye contact may cause slight or mild, transient irritation. Symptoms may include tearing, redness and discomfort. Inhalation of mist causes irritation of respiratory system. May cause coughing and breathing difficulties. May cause genetic defects. Contains a substance which may damage genetic material. Prolonged or repeated contact may cause drying, cracking and defatting of the skin.
: Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Immediate medical attention is required. Aspiration hazard. Aspiration into the lungs during swallowing or subsequent vomiting may cause chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal. Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically. : SECTION 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing media : Suitable extinguishing media Carbon dioxide (CO2).; Dry chemical; Foam. General purpose synthetic foams or protein foams are preferred. : Unsuitable extinguishing media Water may be ineffective when fighting fires involving this material. Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.
