All rights reserved 3 Overview This document contains Installation and configuration instructions for compatible scanners and corresponding software. These compatible scanners are used with the NPLEx Retail Portal web application for pharmacies to scan product UPC codes, ID s with 2D barcodes, and signatures.

2 The compatible scanners improve a pharmacy s workflow in capturing the required customer and product information required under the latest federal Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA) regulations. Additionally, the pharmacy is also able to capture customer signatures electronically and append those signatures to the electronic transaction within the MethCheck/ NPLEx national database. All rights reserved 4 General and Technical Requirements: This install assumes the following requirements: The Operating System on the PC is Windows 10 There is an available USB or higher port on the PC The PC has high speed internet access The user has administrative rights on the PC necessary to install software The user has read and write access to the software Installation folder The user has an admin account setup to log into the Retail Portal web application Note: If the Operating System is Windows 10 the following requirements probably will not be an issue.

3 The PC has Pentium 100 MHz or higher CPU VGA Monitor with true color with at least 800 X 600 pixels 100 MB of free disk space is available Please Note: The steps in this Guide presume you have completed Store Registration in NPLEx , with an active Store Account and PIN. If you have not completed store registration already, you will need to do so before installing your Scanner . Please follow this link to complete store registration: . If you are a pharmacy that uses a firewall and/or proxy, please review the Appendix for additional information related to the Installation of the hardware and software. Scan Monitor Software Installation Follow the instructions listed below: Step Action Screen Shot 1 Download the Scan Monitor Software from the link below.

4 2 Once downloaded, Right click the zip file and select Extract. Then choose a folder location (such as Desktop or My Documents folder) to save the file. 3 Once extracted, locate file, right click, select Run as Administration to start the Installation . All rights reserved 6 4 Click Next at the Welcome screen (Note: your Installation windows may not look exactly like this example) (If prompted, select Everyone) 5 Please note that the Installation may take a few moments as shown in the progress bar. 6 Click Finish on the Retail Portal Device Controller Installation screen. 5 Our next steps will be to plug in the Scanner . It is recommended that you read through the instructions prior to Installation . 1 Plug the Scanner into the PC s USB port as shown. 2a If you are using the Xenon 1900/1950 Scanner , please scan the barcode to the right to complete Scanner setup. 2b If you are using the 1450g Scanner , please scan the barcode to the right to complete Scanner setup. * Note: Scan the setup barcode that matches the hardware you are using. Scanner Installation Manual Copyright 2015, Appriss Inc. All rights reserved 8 3. Scanner Registration Depending on how your Scanner was configured, your Scanner may or may not be registered. The following steps ensure that the Scanner gets registered with the NPLEx service. 1 Go to: Start > All Programs > Retail Portal Device Controller > Retail Portal Device Controller 2 The Scan Monitor Application will open.

All rights reserved 9 3 At this point, log into the Retail Portal Webpage using your Account ID and Password. Once logged in, click the bullet button next to your name and hit submit. Click on the admin tab and type in your PIN. From here click on Scanner configuration. 4 If the text says: No scanners are currently registered for this , FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS DISPLAYED ON YOUR SCREEN. OR If the text says The following scanners are configured for this pharmacy, PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEPS IN THIS DOCUMENT. Scanner Installation Manual Copyright 2015, Appriss Inc. All rights reserved 10 4. Start Using Scanner At this point, the Retail Portal Scan Monitor software should have been successfully installed and the Scanner should be plugged in and registered.

7 Our next steps are to start the Scan Monitor application and test to ensure everything is working. 1 If the Scan Monitor Software is not running already, go to: Start > All Programs > Retail Portal Device Controller > Retail Portal Device Controller You should receive a READY TO SCAN message in the Scan Monitor screen. The Scan Monitor application must be running at all times. Scanner Installation Manual Copyright 2015, Appriss Inc. All rights reserved 11 2 To perform a quick test to make sure the Scanner works, scan the UPC circled to the right. If you don t hear two beeps, refer to the support section below. You should also see Information Sent as a log entry in the Scan Monitor Window. Note: For each successful scan made (UPC, Driver s License), Information Sent will be displayed.

8 You may also log into Retail Portal with your User ID / Password as a test. At the transaction page, scan a PSE product s UPC (such as the Sudafed 24 Hour UPC above) and then click the Import button as shown. If the product information displays, this indicates the Scanner and scan monitor are both installed properly. At this point, the Installation is complete. You may begin submitting real purchase transactions at this point. Scanner Installation Manual Copyright 2015, Appriss Inc. All rights reserved 12 5. Support Having a problem with the Scanner ? Here are some helpful tips: Check to make sure the Scan Monitor program is running. The Scan Monitor application must be running at all times. Refer to Section 3, step 1 above to restart the Scan Monitor Application. Was the Scanner unplugged, then plugged back in, and is now not working?

9 Is your Scanner not being recognized by the computer? Refer to Section 2 and follow step 3 through step 6 to re-connect the Scanner . Does the scan monitor client state that the Scanner cannot be found? If the scan monitor does not recognize that the Scanner is plugged in, you will want to go to your computer s device manager and confirm whether or not the Scanner is listed under Ports. If it is not, unplug the Scanner and go back to Section 2, and follow step 3 through step 6. Is the Scanner not scanning the signature slip? Make sure the Scanner is positioned approximately 4 - 6 inches above the signature barcode. If you have the 4600, the green laser Guide should be parallel to the signature barcode and should encompass both edges. All rights reserved 13 Appendix This section of the Installation Guide is to provide additional information to pharmacies that use firewalls and/or proxies to restrict web content and web communication. This also includes pharmacies that may lock down user permissions on a PC, restricting some users from being able to perform certain functions. 1.
