During the week before AFD for the first time 6 Members and Standard Bearer Jimmy Clunes attended Fly the Flag for Armed Forces Day at Woodmill House, Aberdeen. On 29 June Graeme Thompson (Secretary), Bill Berry and Brian Calder attended the Big Curry Lunch in aid of The Army Benevolent Fund included in the other 120 attendees' where the Lord Provost and local military representatives and dignitaries. On Armed Forces Day, Branch members a Welsh Guardsman, and 3 Gurkhas marched together in the parade. Jimmy Clunes carried the Branch Standard and after parade he entertained members in his city centre office (The Castle Bar) proving that he had lost none of his skills managing the Sgts Mess.

4 BERKS, BUCKS & OXFORDSHIRE. The Branch made best use of the HOT sunny weather at Windsor when it held a joint picnic with the London & Surrey Branches at the GUARDS Polo Club on Sunday 15 July. Next Branch Meeting is at Datchet Golf Club on Thursday 30 August. The Branch Dinner is on Saturday 22 September. Contact Secretary Rab Ritchie for details of Branch events. Rab Ritchie (BBO Secretary) and Graham Fowler (London) enjoy the sun at the picnic. Surrey Members and friends at Gds Polo Club Picnic Surrey Ladies: Mairi O'Connell, Jo Clarkson & Janet Davies. The Surrey Branch had a most enjoyable day at The GUARDS Polo Match on Sunday 15th July by kind invitation of the Bucks, Berks & Oxon Branch to their picnic. We give our thanks to them for including us. It was a glorious day in good company and Rab and his members were the perfect hosts.

5 This is the second year this event has been open to us and as it was such a great success, we understand they hope to make it an annual event. DURHAM & YORKSHIRE. The 25th Branch Annual Dinner will take place at The Civic Centre, Shildon, DL4 1AH on Saturday 15 September 2018 at 1300. for 1330hrs. The Guest of Honour will be Major Hugh Cantlie and the Regt Representative is Lieutenant Roderick Crichton- Stuart who is serving at ITC Catterick. The Branch Sunday Lunch Club made an early visit to Shildon Civic Centre on the 8 July giving us the chance to taste the fayre before our dinner. The venue for the next Sunday Lunch Club get together is The Green Tree, just outside Tees Valley Airport on 5 August. The wife of Branch stalwart Peter Weigold unfortunately tripped on a kerb when on the way to the Queen's Birthday Parade and had to be taken to hospital. She was found to have broken a bone in her shoulder and bruised her face.

6 Unable to attend the parade they handed their tickets to Australian tourists. The wife of John Scott former Branch Chairman has recently been in hospital with breathing problems due to the high temperatures. We wish both ladies well. Next Branch Meeting is Wednesday 8 August 2018 at Newton Aycliffe Working Men's Club 1945hrs Contact Secretary Peter Wheadon for information of all Branch events. FIFE. The Branch held its annual golf competition (The Chairman's Trophy) on Friday 29 June. The winners are: Scratch (The Chairman's Trophy) Winner Major Ron Clemison Scratch Runner Up - Jimmy Banks Handicap (George Stenhouse Claret Jug) Winner - Sandy Rattray Handicap Runner Up - Vince Parrott There were also prizes for our Guest Winner & Runner Up. The Nearest the Pin & Longest Drive winners were each rewarded with a bottle of Malt Whisky. In an attempt to keep the contents to themselves they asked to remain anonymous.

Duncan McIntosh takes over to cover the Secretary role in addition to that as Secretary. Sadly John Smith has had to stand down due to ill health. The Branch annual dinner takes place at The Woodland Inn, Cobourg, Ontario on Saturday 8 September. This is about 75. minutes east of Toronto. The Branch members would be delighted to welcome anyone in the area at the time. PRESTON. On 23 July alongside other military associations members of the branch took part in a commemoration at Preston Railway Station to The Preston Pals D Company, 7 th (Service) Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and those killed in 1 st World War. 8 SUNDAY 26 AUGUST 2018. This will take place at Inveraray Parish Church, PA32 8XT at the morning service at 1130hrs. The Colour Party will be in HSC. Anyone intending to attend is asked to let Neil Crockett or their own Branch Secretary's as soon as possible but by Saturday 11. August at the latest. RQMS RHQ SGA ASSISTANT SECRETARY. RQMS Michael Little moves back to the Bn for a short time before promotion to WO1 and to a RSM job within 77 Bde. On behalf of the whole SGA I gave him congratulations on his promotion and thanks for his work at RHQ and particularly as Assistant Secretary of SGA. He is replaced by RQMS Steven Smith who was previously CSM RF. CORPORAL (LANCE SERGEANT) HARRY BLANCHARD WOOD VC MM. During World War 1 Victoria Crosses were awarded to 5 SCOTS Guardsmen. One for each year of the war. As part of a UK. government initiative to remember their valour, commemorative paving stones have been laid in the place of birth of every Victoria Cross winner.

9 16444 Corporal (Lance Sergeant) Harry Blanshard Wood MM took part in operations on 13 October 1918 at the village of St Python, France. For most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty he was awarded the Victoria Cross On Saturday 13 October 2018 a VC Commemorative Paving Stone will be laid to honour Harry Blanshard Wood in his home village of Newton upon Derwent which is approximately 10 miles South East of York. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council along with the local parish council are making the arrangements for this event. The Regiment and SCOTS GUARDS ASSOCIATION expect to take part. Further details of this commemoration will be given out in due course. SICK PARADE. To Jimmy Clunes (Aberdeen), Kenny Lawson (Fife), both fighting Cancer. JC was in hospital for an operation this week, he is now out and back in his routine. To Eddy McKay (London) recovering from a heart attack. We wish them and all SCOTS Guardsmen not in the best of heath very best wishes.

10 SCOTS GUARDS MALAYSIA & BORNEO VETERANS ASSOCIATION REUNION. 22 & 23 SEPTEMBER 2018. The reunion will take place at The Village Hotel, Blackpool to celebrate their service in Malaysia & Borneo between 1964 1967. Those attending are encouraged to join into the spirit of the evening by dressing in Far East costume. Planters Order is acceptable.
