My main focus this term has been the Strategic Envisioning for St Andrew s with the theme of exploring future possibilities in times of complexity and you for the comprehensive parent and old girl survey. Our school was gratified by the time and input given by these very important staff and the senior girls also worked hard to glean valuable input before the 2 day workshop.

2 The idea behind the strategic envisioning was to be as inclusive as possible and to hear the voice of all our workshop, facilitated by Dr Rama Naidu, was conducted very well. The venue at the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre was relevant and apt. It gave gravitas to the work we are doing for the future of St Andrew process going forward is where the real work begins and will take time. Momentum is there and we will be communicating about strategy as development occurs, both in writing and in meetings over term 2 and term 3. Our facilitator will be making a report available, the representatives will be asked to communicate back to the group they represent and by the end of the year we hope to have a final document look forward to a wonderful and positive future for our school.

May St Andrew s School for Girls Acquisto, Executive HeadWelcome to ThandekaIt gives me great pleasure to introduce THANDEKA LANGA to you as my executive personal assistant (Exec PA).Her contact details at school are the Extension for now 8804 Although she started very recently, just before the St Andrew s Strategic Envisioning, some of you may have met her , alias Miss TNT, calls herself God s dynamite. She hails from the Natal area and we know that her positive impact at St Andrew s will be a blessing to our a university graduate herself, Thandeka is passionate about career guidance and motivational speaking to the comes from the Department of Higher Education and Training (career development services).

In the Diamond Decade, we went through different levels of Diamond Decade with our Story of Change in 20142. Bronze Diamond Decade which we did in 20163. Silver Diamond Decade which we did in 20174. For 2018, we will be working towards your Green Flag Diamond Decade AwardWater DriveThank you to everyone who contributed to the water drive at St Andrew s!

5 We managed to fill a 2 ton truck and Gift of the Givers had to come back for another load. A total of 9295 litre bottles were collected as well as boxes of wet wipes and hand sanitiser. #DroughtSA #CapeTownWaterCrisis #DayZeroTops and TagsGirls helping with the tops and tags collection for The Sweetheart Foundation. A total of 670kgs has been collected!St Andrew s shone a light on modern-day slavery on 14 March 2018 by joining CNN s #MyFreedomDay campaign. Over 200 girls staged a silent protest against the inhumane practice of slavery. The CNN Freedom Project works to expose exploitation of people as sex slaves, unpaid laborers, forced marriages and child labour.

7 Despite the pouring rain, the girls swam superbly and the support was brilliant! Congratulations to our A swimming team for finishing in 3rd place at the Interhigh Premier Swimming Gala and the diving team for finishing in 6th place. I am nearly 11 years old and I am in grade 6, in Joline s class. It s so wonderful to be here at uBambiswano. I have been here for only two months but I already love it here. I enjoy it because we have extra classes.

8 This helps me to get better marks in subjects I struggle with and to have new ideas. We do many fun activities that I enjoy such as swimming, even though it is hard for me. I ve also learned to paint and to use a computer. I want to experience more. My dream is to shine like a star and become what I want to be. I want to be able to provide for my family and be successful. I believe in feel very safe in this space and I feel welcome. I really feel at home when I am here. We have safe transport and we get good food. I love the flowers and the trees and my uniform. Our teachers have welcomed us and my new friends are kind, honest and good. I feel very happy and special, just like the others.

They also learnt about Sir George and Lady Ella Farrar and their six daughters, who were the original owners of Bedford Farm and the Sir Herbert Baker designed homestead, Bedford Girls Reunion2018 Cape Town Reunion at SMAK Deli - thank you Katia for your hospitality; we had a memorable ArchiveThe first phase of the school s Digital Archive, created with Africa Media Online, has been launched.

10 Please visit the Digital Archive at present the school magazine, the St Andrean, from 1995 to 2016 is available for download in low-resolution web format. Soon the issues for 1985 to 1994 and 2017 will also be included. Eventually we expect the entire collection of school magazines to be uploaded to the Digital Archive. If anyone has copies of the early issues of the St Andrean (Number 1, the issue dated 1922, or Number 4, the issue dated November 1924) or indeed any historic photographs and documents to donate to the archive department I would be very grateful to receive download of individual magazines via the Digital Archive may take some time, but then it is possible to scroll through the pages and also to search for individual names and terms.
