9 These terminals aresealed in a dielectric material which insulates them from thehousing and maintains the pressure tight integrity of the her-metic compressor. The terminals and their dielectric em-bedment are strongly constructed, but are vulnerable to care-less compressor installation or maintenance procedures andequally vulnerable to internal electrical short circuits causedby excessive system REFRIGERANT HANDLINGW hile these items will not cover every conceivable situation, they should serve as a useful either of these instances, an electrical short between theterminal and the compressor housing may result in the lossof integrity between the terminal and its dielectric embed-ment.

10 This loss may cause the terminals to be expelled, thereby venting the vaporous and liquid contents of the com-pressor housing and venting compressor terminal normally presents no dangerto anyone, providing the terminal protective cover is properlyin , however, the terminal protective cover is not properly inplace, a venting terminal may discharge a combination of(a) hot lubricating oil and refrigerant(b) flammable mixture (if system is contaminatedwith air)in a stream of spray which may be dangerous to anyone inthe vicinity. Death or serious bodily injury could no circumstances is a hermetic compressor to be elec-trically energized and/or operated without having the terminalprotective cover properly in Service Section S-17 for proper INFORMATIONWARNINGREFRIGERANTS ARE HEAVIER THAN AIR.
