The warranty period is two years and should the product suffer mechanical failure within this period, a replacement will be made available from the original purchase location electrical wholesaler COMMITTED TO SERVICE 3 DEDICATED TO QUALITY CHOOSING THE CORRECT FAN DOMESTIC BUILDING REGULATIONS Bathrooms Require mechanical extract ventilation at a rate of 54m3/h (15 l/s) Toilets (Without Openable Window) Require mechanical extract ventilation at a rate of 22m3/h (6 l/s) If above rooms do not contain a window which opens, a 15-minute over-run timer is required Kitchens Either 108m3/h (30 l/s) by cooker hood or fan over hob under humidistat control Or 216m3/h (60 l/s) elsewhere If above rooms do not contain a window which opens, a 15-minute over-run timer is required Utility Rooms Require mechanical extract ventilation at a rate of 108m3/h (30 l/s)

If above rooms do not contain a window which opens, a 15-minute over-run timer is required Non Domestic Buildings Domestic type kitchens, bathrooms and toilets require fans similar to those for domestic buildings. Occupiable rooms such as rest rooms require an extract rate of 29m3/h (8 l/s) per person or 58m3/h (16 l/s) if smoking is allowed Alternative Approach To comply with Digest 398 (continuous mechanical ventilation in dwellings). This requires a ventilation rate of air changes per hour based on the whole house volume Background ventilation required Trickle vents or airbricks 4000mm2 typically located above floor to prevent draughts. SILAVENT has a full range of products to comply with Scottish Building Regulations Part K. AXIAL OR CENTRIFUGAL ? Axial These fans are designed to move air over short distances only, and are therefore suitable for window fixing or through wall application.

They are not suitable for ducting runs in excess of 2 metres Centrifugal These fans are designed to move air over longer distances, and will perform well against the resistance presented by ducting and grilles. 8 Performance Required To calculate the performance required, establish the following information 1. Room Volume Length x Width x Height 2. Number of Air Changes Per Hour Required See Table Opposite Performance Required = (Room Volume x Number of Air Changes) Check that this exceeds the minimum requirements of the Building Regulations. In some circumstances it may be required to fit more than one fan. Application The choice of wall, ceiling or window fixing is available to suit the application. If installation is to be in the ceiling, choose the shortest, smoothest duct route possible. Now choose the type of fan to do the job - Axial or Centrifugal. Example ROOM DOMESTIC KITCHEN Volume (Size) 3 x 3 x 2 = 22 m3 Air Changes Per Hour 10 Performance 22 x 10 = 225m3/h Fixing Ceiling Fan Type Centrifugal Fan Required Kitchenaire/PVS Kitchen Incorrect siting of an extractor fan can severely impair its efficiency.

It is therefore important that the fan is correctly situated using the following principles: To ensure maximum airflow through the whole room, site the fan in the window, wall or ceiling furthest from the air inlet point and at a high level Do not position a fan where temperatures are likely to exceed 50 C immediately above a cooker hob or eye level grille - we recommend a minimum distance of 1 metre above. When installing in a room with an open fire or stove without a balanced flue, ensure that there is sufficient replacement air to prevent the fan drawing air back down the flue A 230/240 volt fan installed in a bathroom must not be within reach of a person using the bath or shower We strongly recommend the use of an In-Duct or Low Voltage (SELV) fan to ventilate a shower cubicle We strongly recommend the use of an In-Duct or Low Voltage (SELV) fan if installation is near to a shower head. Use the higher figures in crowded conditions or where heat, fumes, odours or moisture are prevalent CHOOSING THE RIGHT FAN COMMITTED TO SERVICE 5 WHERE TO SITE YOUR EXTRACT FAN COMMITTED TO SERVICE The International Protection Ratings (IP Ratings) are often quoted (or requested) when enquiring about domestic ventilation.

To help understand what the various letters and numbers mean, we have set out a rough summary of the interpretations of each one. Below are two columns - on the left are tests regarding the level of protection against intrusion by various sized solid objects ranging from a larger item such as a hand down to dust particles. On the right are tests aimed at identifying the level of protection against water ranging from splash to submersion. Each International Protection rating starts with the letters IP and is followed by two characters/numbers IPX4. It is the latter two characters which identify the level of protection a fan offers - in this example X4. The 1st of these characters signifies the level of protection against the solid objects the left hand column below. The 2nd of the characters identifies the level of protection against the water as detailed below in the right hand column. DIGIT TEST PROTECTION X No Test Applied No specific protection 0 No Test Applied Degree of protection inherent in product 1 Offers protection against solid objects larger than 50mm Hand 2 Offers protection against solid objects larger than 12mm Finger 3 Offers protection against solid objects larger than Tools 4 Offers protection against solid objects larger than 1mm Thin Wire 5 Offers enough protection against dust to prevent
