Hydrostatic sensor Deltapilot S withelectronic insert FEB 17 forcontinuous level measurement Vibrating probe liquiphant FDL 30/31for calibration correction, installed ata point that the product passes mostfrequently Silometer Analog output signals current andvoltage Two setpoint signals from thecontinuous measurement, adjustableswitch PrincipleInputsThe sensors for continuousmeasurement and the sensors for limitdetection are each connected to theinputs by unscreened two-wire Silometer supplies the electronicinserts (transmitters) in the sensor. Aninterference-free PFM signal, proportional to level, is received. Forlimit detection with the Liquiphantvibrating fork probes, a frequencychange indicates that the desired levelhas been intrinsically safe signal inputs(input 1 for continuous measurement, input 2 for limit detection) aregalvanically isolated from the supplyand outputs.

By coupling both inputs, automatic compensation of thecontinuous measurement mode ispossible. This means no re-calibrationis required on changing Functions for ContinuousMeasurement Linearisation of Vessel ShapeThe vessel curve describes thefunctional relationship between theheighthand the vessel represented on the by benchmarks. Thesepoints are determined eitherempirically or by the vesselmanufacturer. A known curve can alsobe entered into the instrument. Themost common curve (for a cylindrical, horizontal tank) is also programmedinto the levelmeasurement withautomatic calibrationcorrection (example 2)PFM signalbetween andSilometer ofvessel shape3 Measuring Principle(continued) Automatic Calibration Correction forChanging Vessel ContentsThe zero of the level curve isdetermined by empty the level reaches the correctionprobe (at 60% in the diagram), thereference point K1 and therefore thegradient is the dielectric constant or the densityof the material increases, then theslope becomes less , K1 is reached on filling thevessel, before the level has reached60%.

Indication remains constant onrising level until the level reaches thecorrection probe. Point K3 is thenfixed, and the PFM signal is correction takes place both onrising and on falling Signals Theanalog output signalsarestandardised mA or mAcurrent and V or on calibration, outputsignals are proportional either to thelevel or to the contents of the linearisation curve for contentsindication on any vessel can beprogrammed the event of failure, the outputsignal may be programmed to drive 10% or +110%, or hold the lastmeasurement . Two setpoint controllerseach with apotential-free change-over contact areintegral to the Silometer . Each canbe operated in minimum or maximumfail-safe mode with adjustablehysteresis. This allows selection for fulland empty alarm and also two-pointcontrol.

The setpoint controllers areindividually energised either by input 1(continuous measurement) or by input2 (limit detection). Thefault alarmalso has apotential-free change-over a fault occur, then the relayde-energises. Sockets are located on the front panelto connect to the Commulog VU 260 Zfor on-site programming and for directaccess to the current Signal and FunctionIndication on the Instrument The LCD indicates the level orcontents of the tank or silo either inper cent or preset engineering selecting the appropriate matrixfield, other data may also bedisplayed, e. g. frequency of the PFMsignal input and in the case of a fault, its code , the programmed data, suchas the required level for an outputsignal 0 mA and 20 mA, processingtime, switchpoints and hysteresis ofsetpoint controllers, linearisationvalues for contents measurement, offset and sensor sensitivity withelectronic insert or the completemeasuring system, is stored and maybe called up.

The bar display (10 part LCD) belowthe digital readout indicates actualpercentage of full scale achieved. Clear display of the matrix fieldselected prevents error when readingthe display or entering correction: Capacitance probeor Deltapilot S for levelmeasurement Capacitance probeor liquiphant forcalibration correction4 Measuring Principle(continued) The green and red LEDs in the centreof the front panel indicate whether thesetpoint controller relays areenergised or de-energised. Theoperator can see at a glance whethera critical situation has occurred (toofull or too empty). The green LED below indicates whenthe Silometer is operating in dialoguewith the Modbus gateway ZA 672 orCommulog VU 260 Z. Fault or warning is indicated by thered LED . In fault conditions, the LEDlights up, and it flashes to give awarning.

Warning is given e. g. onfalse can be set on the SilometerFMC 671 Z from the front panel usingonly 6 pushbuttons and a table(operating matrix). The operating matrixis in two languages and is mountedwithin the instrument to one side. Thematrix field required is selected usingthe V and H buttons whilst the otherbuttons allow data to be entered.(See operating instructions for furtherinformation.) Calibration forcontinuousmeasurementcan be carried out atany level and in any sequence:empty calibration at any level between0% and 40%, full calibration between60% and 100%. This eliminates theneed to completely empty and fill thevessel for calibration purposes. Calibration for continuousmeasurementwith automaticcalibration correctionis even empty calibration needs to becarried out.

The Silometer calculatesthe full calibration automatically(gradient of curve) as soon as thelevel reaches the correction probe. Calibration forlimit detectioncan becarried out easily by pushbutton withthe probe covered or free. On-site calibrationof the SilometerFMC 671 Z using the CommulogVU 260 Z is straigthforward, since data exchange takes place bydialogue with the FMC, givingadditional information on the largeannotated display of the VU 260 Z.
