1 ARTICS SMART ENERGYMARINE& OFFSHORET raditionally engaged in technological innovation, Nidec ASI accepted the challenge of developing a sustainable economy withminimal impact on the environment by engaging in the research and development of green infrastructure, developing a newsolution to optimize the use of ENERGY to current estimates, marine transports account for 4% of total carbon dioxide emissions - the equivalent of CO2generated each year by a country like Germany and these emissions are expected to increase by 150%-200% due to the growthin naval trade. Renewable energies (such as wind and sun) allow significant improvements in reducing emissions.
2 This does not mean theelimination of traditional electric motors but the construction of hybrid systems which allow to reduce fuel consumption byslightly more than 10%. If the ENERGY produced is not used during the voyage it can be stored and used - for example - whenthe ship reaches the solution consists in a power management system (PMS) which monitors and measures the ENERGY consumption andproduction and optimizes the ENERGY flows to avoid overloads and black-outs. Today wind and photovoltaic ENERGY systems areoften considered as non-integrated applications, our solution aims to design "multi-generation systems," that can simultaneouslyreceive ENERGY from sun, wind and other renewable SMART Energyis our platform for the PMS.
3 ARTICS SMART ENERGY can be used on ships in order to integrate ENERGY fromsun and wind into the propulsion system. The unreliability of these renewable sources is countered by using a storage systemwith electrochemical batteries: when the sun is behind the clouds and the wind stops blowing, the ship can continue its voyageby using the stored ENERGY or can moor in the port without SMART Energyis specifically designed to optimize ENERGY generation and consumption, covering solutions from theoptimization of industrial loads to the full management of renewable ENERGY sources including the connection to the main utility,when needed. ARTICS SMART Energyis a flexible and high performance hardware and software platform; the aim of the system is to improveperformance by optimizing the ENERGY produced from generators (internal) or coming from utility companies (external) with theenergy load requirements.
