A real energy saver! Inteli Touch III- Name ( ) RAS 6-3-03HI-REL OPERATIONAL NOTESWhen using the Inteli-Touch wall control unit to programthe fan by using the light-fan-power buttons, you may noticesome of the following conditions: Lights flickering Irregular blade rotation Motor noiseThis is caused by the use of the light and fan controlbuttons when you are programming the fan. The use of thesebuttons causes brief electrical transients on the AC power sinewave and is not a problem. When programming is completedand the buttons have been released, operation will return , electrical transients may cause the memoryof the microcomputer to default or be scrambled . To resetthe microcomputer:1. Turn OFF power2. Wait 3 seconds3. Turn ON power4. Reprogram to desired modeNormal operation will Inteli-Touch wall control unit may feel warm to thetouch. A small amount of heat is normal for the Inteli-Touchwall control quiet motor operation that you expect from your fanis directly related to the AC power waveform.

The Inteli-Touchwall control unit is an active electronic control that passes anuninterrupted AC sine wave to the fan continuously exceptduring program mode. The wall control unit is utilized toprovide AC waveform signals or instructions that are inter-preted by the microprocessor chip on the RMM control center for the fan is the RMM board with themicroprocessor chip and processor memory. The micropro-cessor chip interprets the instructions provided from the wallcontrol unit. The microprocessor chip/memory then controlsall fan functions. The microprocessor controls one of sixseparate electronic switches (known as triacs) which in turnselects one of six available motor speeds. On speed six (highspeed), a triac controls the motor directly. On speed five, atriac directs current first through a voltage dropping resistor inthe BFR before going to the motor. This reduces the voltageto the motor so that it runs slower. On slower speeds, othertriacs progressively switch higher resistances in series withthe motor.

Direction of fan rotation is controlled by a relay onthe BFR is a flexible resistor array with five seriesresistors with taps at the junctions. The BFR is adhered to themotor housing which acts as a sink for the heat generated bythe intensity and ON/OFF operation are controlledthrough another triac on the RMM. This triac is instructed bythe microprocessor to perform in the manner of a light : Any time a light bulb is to be changed, theON/OFF switch should be in the OFF positionsince AC power is still present at the light socket(s).THEORY OF OPERATIONThe major electrical modules that comprise your Casablancafan are,Inteli-Touch wall control unitRMM (Recognition & MemoryModule) control logic boardLDM (Light Drive module )BFR (Bi-directional flow regulator)Motor (with attached flywheel)III- Name ( ) RAS 6-3-03 INTELI-TOUCH Hi-Rel RMM-II, RMM-III, RMM-IV & RMM-VWIRING DIAGRAMBFR Type-2 & 3 (Bi-directional Flow Regulator) RMM-II,III,IV & V (Receive Memory module ) Motor Unit W-32 or W-33 Wall SwitchIII- Name ( ) RAS 6-3-03 NOTE: Sharp bending MUST be avoided!

HANDLE WITH TURN POWER OFF BEFORE Remove the blades and blade holder Remove the housing thru-bolts while holding thebottom plate in Remove the bottom plate and center To test for a defective BFR remove the BFR connectorfrom the RMM board and plug a new BFR into the RMMboard. If the problem is eliminated, replace the BFR asfollows:To remove the defective BFR, the RMM supportshroud must first be removed. To do this, first removeboth connectors from the RMM board by grasping theedges and gently pulling out with a very slight rockingmotion.

Loosen the two support screws to remove theRMM support. Now completely remove the two supportscrews. CAREFULLY peel the BFR from the motorhousing, starting at one end. Clean any remainingadhesive from the motor using naphtha or lighter CAREFULLY peel the paper backing from the newBFR. CAREFULLY position one end over the supportscrew hole, then gently but firmly wrap the BFR aroundthe motor, CAREFULLY keeping it in alignment so thatthe holes and slots in the ends of the BFR will align withthe holes in the motor. Make sure there are no airbubbles or wrinkles in the BFR; it must adhere as tightlyas possible to the motor. Next, reinstall the two supportscrews and slide the RMM support into place. Tightenthe screws and CAREFULLY reinstall the connectors, insuring the cable connector pin #1 matches with jumperpin # To complete the re-assembly, raise the center bandand bottom plate into place. 7 Note: The microcomputer reads thepresence of the LDM by detecting the operation of a small lightemitting diode within the optocoupler on the microcomputer also controls the direction of the fanthrough a small reversing relay mounted on theRMM circuit control motor speed, the microcomputer selects one ofsix outputs, each of which turns on an electronic switch knownas a triac. These six triacs are located on the RMM circuit high speed, a triac drives the motor directly. In all otherspeeds, a triac drives the motor through one or all five droppingresistors contained within the BFR. This reduces power to themotor while maintaining a pure sine wave PC BOARD Replacement - CONTINUEDIII- Name ( ) RAS 6-3-03HI-REL PCB REPLACEMENTTo test or replace an RMM or HI-REL assembly, it isnecessary to partially disassemble the fan. Proceed asfollows:TURN POWER Remove the blades and blade holder Remove the housing thru-bolts while holding thebottom plate in Remove the bottom plate and center To test for a defective RMM or HI-REL assembly, remove the two connectors (AC/Motor & BFR) by grasp-ing the edges and gently pulling out with a very slightrocking motion.

This Technical Bulletin will help in the identification of the motor run capacitors on the different PCboards. Because of the different motors Casablanca has used over the years, it s very important that you matchthe correct PC board with the right motor. By using the wrong board, the run capacitor on the board will make themotor run hot. At the time you are replacing a motor or PC board you must look at the run capacitors and matchthe values, either being 9mfd, 10mfd or 11mfd. The following information will help you locate and identify motorrun capacitors on the different PC boards. run capacitors on the different PC with XLP 2000 and EMERSON motorsused in most standard Inteli-Touch with XLP 2000 and EMERSON motors used in most standard Inteli-Touch Fan Co. has updated the electronics in the Inteli-Touch to level5, the New RMM V has been the replacement board in product since Decem-ber 2000. The NEW RMM V will be used as the replacement for all levels ofRMM PC boards, such as the RMM II, RMM III and RMM IV.
