2 It follows the circulation of the Thames Valley edition of The Business Magazinebusiness turnover in the UK is derived from SMEs and it s intriguing to realise that the vast majority of SMEs are actually micro businesses employing less than 10 people. The companies in our list on the whole have bigger workforces, but it is still apparent that there is a great deal of Business being generated by a relatively small number of employees here. It s the SME sector where enterprise, innovation and productivity are at their best. At the top of the SME 100 are three companies with 10m turnover Southern Business Technologies of Basingstoke, Williams Performance Tenders of Berinsfield, near Oxford, and RL Maynard of Gerrards Cross. SPONSORSS outhern Business Technologies operates from Dummer, near Basingstoke, offering communications systems, from office telephone systems to Business mobiles.

3 Trading under Southern Communications, it was established in 1965 and employs more than 70 people Performance Tenders was founded as Williams Marine in 1995 by brothers Mathew and John Hornsby. In 2004 Business partner Roy Parker joined the team and Williams Performance Tenders was founded. The company now employs 36 staff and operates in 24 European locations, enjoying a reputation as the world s leading jet tender specialist developer RL Maynard, based in Gerrards Cross, was formed in 1973, and is best known as Nationcrest, the privately-owned housebuilding company, developing high-quality homes throughout Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
