WATER: Clarifiers, Thickeners, and raw FEATURES Widest range of Sonar Transducers to improveinterface measurements, especially light and very heavy densities. Automatic cleaning mechanism removes build-up on the Sonar sensor, especially where scalingand suspended solids are present. 2 Class 1 Zone 0 pendingSONAR with GSM capabilityINTERFACE Level MONITORINGS onar Level TransmitterSA SeriesDATA SHEETJANUARY 20042 PRINCIPAL OF OPERATIONThe SA Series Sonar Level System consists of an SAtransmitter and the appropriate ST001, ST002, ST003,ST004, ST005, ST006, ST007, ST008, ST009, ST010, Sonar transducer selection will vary dependent uponthe density of the interface to be detected. Performanceis very frequency ( Sonar transducer) :High density sludge with suspended solidswill use a lower frequency Transmitter , to defractthe signal around the particles in density sludge/interfaces require higherfrequency transducers in order to maximize the SA Sonar Level Transmitter emits a sound pulsetowards the interface/sludge which is at the bottomof the clarifier/tank, etc. The pulse signal is reflectedoff the interface, back to the Sonar transducer, thenthe Level Transmitter interprets the signal, compensatesfor temperature and provides a distance reading, andan analog output proportional to the sludge/interfaceheight.

3 Modbus Communications is also processing software monitors the operatingefficiency of the Sonar transducer. As the efficiencyof the transducer drops off due to build-up on thesensing face (generally caused by fats settling out, orsuspended solids attaching to the transducer), thesonar Transmitter will increase the Level of ultrasoniccleaning of the face or where fitted will activate theautomatic Scum Cleaner which will remove all heavybuild-up on the Sonar a rule, the lower the frequency, the greater thepressure wave with each pulse, the greater Example:Mining Thickener. (Dense mud layer)For this application we must use a lowfrequency Sonar transducer to measure thebed Level and not see the floc interface select the ST009 (15kHz) Sonar transducerand appropriate housing material for chemicalcompatibility. Also select the auto-scumcleaner because of suspended solids that willattach to the sensor, as well as minimizingscale build-up.

4 High temperature service to150 C (302 F).FEATURES Full range of Sonar transducers to optimise detection of heavy and light density interfaces. The SA Sonar Transmitter handles all Hawk Sonar transducers. Standard range to 15 metres. Option: 30 metres. Ultrasonic cleaning (light build-up) of the Sonar transducer face and automatic control of the heavy build-up Scum Cleaner (option). 4-20mA (Isolated) analog output for blanket/bed Level or distance to blanket/bed (interface). 200m Sonar transducer/ Sonar Transmitter separation distance. NEMA 4X (IP67) enclosure for SA Transmitter . 4 relays, field programmable for control purposes. Modbus Communications, RS485. Windows based Sonar Hawk diagnostic andcommunication software. Full operational diagnostics display on the SAtransmitter. Special Short Blanking Range. GSM Modem for remote technical and Level monitoring / Floc ControlUsing a specially chosen low frequency transducer guaranteesthat the bed Level will always be the largest echo.

They include particle size, flow, velocity, material, air bubble retention ..IN GENERAL, THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN:(1)Identify a position away from direct inflow, where turbulence isminimised.(2)If air bubbles are present within heavy suspended solids, use thescum cleaner option.(3)The transducer selection should be:ST TRANSDUCER SELECTION GUIDELINES% SOLIDSTRANSDUCERBLANKING>8%ST001400mm5-8 %ST002400mm2% - 5%ST003400mm1% - 2%ST004400mm<1%ST005400mmExample:Water andWaste/waterExample:MiningThickenersSe ttlersWashersThe higher the transducer frequency, the easier it becomes to seesmaller particle sizes.
