When AWS american National Standards are either incorporated in, ormade part of, documents that are included in federal or state laws and regulations, or the regulations of other govern-mental bodies, their provisions carry the full legal authority of the statute.
3 In such cases, any changes in those AWSstandards must be approved by the governmental body having statutory jurisdiction before they can become a part ofthose laws and regulations. In all cases, these standards carry the full legal authority of the contract or other documentthat invokes the AWS standards. The first edition superseded, in part, AWS QC1, Standard for Certifica-tion of AWS Welding Inspectors . AWS QC1 sets the requirements for the AWS certified Welding inspector establishes a basic definition of a Welding inspector , and is referenced by QC1. Companies or individualswishing to establish in-house or internal Qualification programs for inspection personnel may use AWS as the basisfor their program. Companies or individuals wishing to obtain AWS certification must follow the requirements in AWSQC1. Individuals who comply with AWS but not with AWS QC1 should not be labeled as AWS certified WeldingInspectors; only individuals who comply with AWS QC1, as determined by AWS, may obtain that second edition includes revisions to nearly every area of the Specification : duties, capabilities, education, experi-ence, and testing.
