2 The SLHS undergraduate degree also preparesstudents to acquire the prerequisites necessary to apply for graduatestudy in speech - Language pathology and audiology. Program coursesconstitute the specific requirements for a science major in SLHS leadingto the baccalaureate degree at this University. The undergraduatesequence or a program equivalence is a prerequisite to the Master ofScience in Communicative master s degree in the area of speech - Language pathology (SLP) isrequired for the professional license to practice in the field. A doctoraldegree in Audiology (AUD) is required for professional licensing inaudiology. All undergraduates, regardless of their intention to becomean audiologist or speech - Language pathologist, or another career, takethe same coursework. Thirteen core courses are required for the degree is not a terminal degree. While the degree does notqualify the student to practice speech - Language pathology or audiology, there are related fields open to the graduate that include employmentas teacher s assistant, classroom aide, child development worker, andspeech- Language pathology assistant with additional intern experiencebeyond the undergraduate degree.
3 In addition, the degree is strongpreparation for a number of graduate programs in special education, education, rehabilitation counseling, and related Master's level curriculum of the Department of speech , Languageand Hearing Sciences includes all academic and clinical experiencesnecessary for American speech and Hearing Association (ASHA)certification in speech - Language pathology , State of california speech - Language pathology Services Credential, and the State of Californialicense to practice speech - Language pathology . Students are requiredto complete all academic and clinical courses. The practice of speech - Language pathology in the state of california requires a license issued bythe speech - Language pathology and Audiology Examining CommitteeMedical Board of california . Exempted settings are public schools andfederal facilities. The academic and clinical requirements for the statelicense are similar to those of ASHA requirements in EPSTEIN (2006), Professor of speech , Language and HearingSciences; (1982), University of california at Berkeley; (1983),University of London, Institute of Archaeology; (1990), (1994)University of california at Santa RAGGIO (1997), Professor of speech , Language and HearingSciences; (1978), (1980), San Francisco State University; (1992), University of california , San SOTO (1996), Professor of Special Education; (1988),Universidad Pontificia, Spain; (1991), (1994), Purdue ProfessorBETTY YU (2009), Associate Professor of speech , Language and HearingSciences; (1996), University of california at Berkeley; (1999),New York University.
