Only10% of that electricity actually contributes to theillumination process whereas LED s producelight with semiconductor technology, with littleelectricity wasted in the lighting offers decisive advantagesAs a result, LED s require half the energy of a 100-watt bulb, and generate only a fraction of the addition to the obvious energy savings, cost savings, and thermal savings, this fundamental difference yieldstremendous maintenance and life expectancy the repeated heating andcooling of fragile filaments, LED s arenot prone to premature failure anduncertain life fact, ColorLogic LED lights boasta much longer life expectancy than othertypes of lighting. ColorLogic lights aretherefore sealed and never require service calls to replacebulbs. Plus, with no moving parts (such as a colorwheel), ColorLogic lights are virtually Setup,OperationPage 6 TipsFor Setup,OperationPage 6 Warranty process fuels improvementsWarranty claims are an important tool in Hayward s quality assurance in warranty claim data can allow us to quickly identify potential productissues, while failure analysis on components returned with warranty claims allowHayward s technical services team to pinpoint specific causes and takeimmediate corrective fact, the database of technical information compiled from warranty claimsand product failure analysis allows Hayward to monitor many different aspectsof product quality, while also fueling targeted research and development effortsfor product improvements and new product example.

Page 5controls the LED output providing five rich, fixed color settings plus an assortment of seven entertaining lightingsequences or shows. Every ColorLogic pool light actually includes 27 LED s 11 red, 8 blue and 8green. ColorLogic spa lights have 10 LED s 4 red, 3 blue and 3 green. Boththe pool and spa lights operate the same way, pairing standard RGB (red-green-blue) digital color technology (found on most computer monitors) withChromacore s microprocessing technology for controlling LED displays (left).

Chromacore varies the color and intensity of illumination by rapidly switchingone or more of the LED s on and off thousands of times per second. This pulse width modulation creates a flow and transition of lighting perceivedas perfectly smooth by the human PRODUCTSP lease send commentsor suggestions to:SplashHayward Pool Products1 Hayward Industrial , 27012or e-mail us are generally used on coversand lids needing an air- and water-tightseal. If not lubricated, the O-ringrubber can harden over time, and evenFailure, componentcodes will enhancequality improvementInaccurate codes, other data willdelay warranty & reimbursementYou have likely seen the new version warranty claimform (above & left) that has been distributed to ourdealers and service companies over the last few key difference in the form is that we are now askingfor a component code and failure code to be filled inon each warranty claim for the primary part that are two-letter codes that identify the particularcomponent that caused the failure and exactly how thecomponent make it easier, we have included a copy of this codelist on the reverse of every warranty claim form (illustrationat left).

Using these codes, we can better understand theDab of lubeon O-rings can makemaintenance easierTechnicians can make their liveseasier down the road by lightlylubricating strainer basket covers, chlorinator lids, filter bodies andother components that utilizerubber type O-rings for part number SP032712seize to the part, making the sealedopening extremely difficult to open in this fast and simple process toyour daily routine will make your liferemoving covers much easier we recommend Jack s Formula 327 Multilube, Hayward part : Using the wrong lubricant canbe as bad as using no lube at all. Manylubricants in the market place can causeO-rings to swell and stretch, thus makingthe O-ring useless. If you are not usingJack s 327 make sure your lubricant ispure part must accompany heater, heat pump claimResolution usually starts with failure analysis, which is why Hayward now requests that all failedpart(s) be submitted with any heater or heat pump warranty claim.

For all other products, we askthat dealers hold onto failed components (except sheet metal failures) for 30 days, or until the claim is paid in case we determine that failure analysis might be warranted. Hayward provides pre-addressed and prepaidUPS return labels for this purpose, so there is no cost to you to return the returning any components required for failure analysis, be sure to properly tag the components sothat they can be matched up with the warranty claim number. And be sure to use our prepaid shipping labels, product tags, and warranty claims forms are provided by Hayward , and can be reordered.(Continued from front page)particular component can reveal quality issues traceable to aparticular vendor that supplies Hayward s factory andassembly operations. Other times, warranty claims can revealunexpected product applications groups of customers whohave come up with new needs or new ways of using these situations and trends often leads directly tonew product development and additional competitive advantagesfor Hayward dealers while our ability to quickly identifyquality issues results in greatercustomer satisfaction, quickerresolution of quality issues, andlower costs for issue arises, ourprimary objective is to identifyand resolve it as quickly Haywardadvantages traceableto warranty programHayward s new warranty form (above) isdesigned to accelerate product improvementsand repairs.

Identifying trends from warrantyclaims, Hayward can then troubleshoot failedcomponents (left). However, acceleratedproduct improvements, repairs and rapidwarranty reimbursement all depend onissues that are being found in the field and react quickly to offer a resolution to the , please note that incomplete or incorrect warranty claim forms needlessly delay importantquality assurance and improvement processes as well as your own reimbursement and replacement of submitting complete, accurate information including recently introduced Component Codesand Failure Codes, listed on the back of our new warranty form (below). POOL PRODUCTSPAGETHREE multi-valves can raise questions among techni-cians as to their proper function. Follow-ing are the seven positions ofHayward s popular Vari-Flow multi-valve, and theeffect each of those sevenpositions has on the sandinside the mode The valvedirects water to the top of the filter, where the water compresses andflattens down the sand as it makes its waythrough to the bottom mode The valve directs water tocome out the bottom laterals, reversing the flowof water through the tank.

This causes the sandto separate and lift about 7 above its normallevel, thereby releasing the trapped debris intothe water and allowing it to exit the filterthrough the waste mode Water is directed to (enters) thetop of the tank (just like filter mode) but exitsthrough the waste line (instead of the laterals). This re-seats the sand after backwashing, andminimizes particulate blow back once normalfiltration is mode Water is directed throughthe valve only, not the filter. This is a position touse during some pool cleanups and chemicaltreatments where you don t want the watercontaminating the sand; an example would bewhen using a drop and floc product in mode This position bypasses thefilter and sends all water out the waste line agreat setting for vacuuming pools after an algaetreatment, for new sand addition, and for newfilter Filtration is Simple, Efficient SolutionSand filtration is the oldest, most common and simplestfiltration method in the pool care the principles of depth filtration and gravity, waterenters (or is channeled to) the top of a typical sand filter, then fallsthrough a bed of sand, which traps particles of dirt and debris asthe water filters water then exits through laterals at the bottom of thefilter.

The trapped dirt is removed from the sand via periodicbackwashing and infrequent sand s the short, efficient story of sand filters and diatomaceous earth ( ) filters providehigher levels of filtration but nothing beats the good ol sand filter forease of operation and maintenance particularly a Hayward Pro series or S200 series sand are important operating and repair tips for Hayward controlsfilter s functionSand filters are controlled with eitherof two types of valves:Sand Filter Operation TipsSHUT OFF PUMP Turning the Filter Control Valve handlewhile water is being pumped through the filter can damage thevalve and possibly other equipment as well. So always shut offthe system s pump before switching valve positions. Then, when turning the valve, be sure to fully depress the valvehandle to prevent damaging the valve seat (NOT FREQUENT) BACKWASHING A little-known factis that a sand filter operates most efficiently during mid-cycle.

Par-ticulates (debris) trapped in the sand bed actually help the filterwork better so frequent backwashing reduces efficiency. Sandfilters should only be backwashed when the filter has collected somuch debris that it begins to restrict water flow and increase water pressure(see next tip).USE PRESSURE GAUGE The use of a pressure gauge with sand filters is very important because the filtershould not be backwashed until water pressure has risen 5-10 PSI (see owner s manual per unit) due to ac-cumulated debris in the BACKWASH CLOSELY Backwashing can waste 50 to 300 gallons of water, so pay attention thiswater has chemicals you paid to put in the pool, not the street. Backwash until the waste line water or site-glass water on the side of the valve becomes POOL CLEANING Do not vacuum a new pool with the filter in the backwash mode, as this could plugup the laterals at the bottom of the filter with dust from the new pool FLOW RATE If the filter s recommended flow rate is exceeded, a shafting effect (tunneling) willtake place in the sand, allowing debris to bypass the sand s intended filtration Filter Repair TipsCONNECTING PIPES TO THE VALVE We see a lot of cracks created by installers incorrectly attaching a pipeto the Vari-Flow valve (see story at left).
