The event is sponsored by the Ladies Club with the profits benefiting the St. Vincent de Paul Society. From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas: REMEMBER THAT APRIL IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE HOLY EUCHARIST! HE IS TRULY RISEN! As St. Paul said so well, If Christ is not risen, your faith is vain. In other words, if Jesus Body is moldering away in some obscure rocky crevice in Palestine, the whole of our Christian faith is refuted, and all the struc-tures we ve created over the centuries, both intellectual and spiritual, would collapse from being empty and void.

But He is truly risen! He appeared to all His apostles and to more than five hundred others. They saw Him, they spoke with Him, they touched Him, and even dined with was not a phantom, a ghost, a specter, or an illusion. Most of all, they died for Him, in many cases suffering horrible tortures (and even cruci-fixion) like His own. Is it even momentarily conceivable that they would have done that were they not convinced that He had risen from the dead? Two thousand years later, the earth still resounds with the glorious message, and His disciples are still willing to embrace sufferings like unto His own because of it.

The Resurrection gives hope to a world where there is still too much darkness, selfishness and sin. And the hope is this: no matter what you have done, no matter what has transpired, you need not die in your sins. Even in the depths of evil, good is still triumphant. Even when there is no visible way out, Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and still the Good Shepherd who leads us to the green pastures of wholeness and holiness. So as the ancient hymn proclaims, Christians, rejoice! The reason why is clear: Our Savior has truly risen, and given us all the hope of glory!

PILGRIMAGE TO EWTN (May 21-24) Be sure to get your reservations in ASAP. (Flyers are located in the vestibule of church and at the Parish offices.) ANYONE UP FOR BANGERS AND MASH ? The next logical stop in our journey through the various lands of ethno-hagiographical dinners would be on Saturday evening, April 21, when we would commemorate the martyrdom of St. George, patron of England, and honor him with a banquet of British epicurial delights. What s that you said? You didn t think that there was anything the Brits eat that you would care to ingest?

You ve obviously never partaken of Bangers & Mash (sausages with mashed potatoes), Bubble & Squeak (vegetables, beef, and spuds all fried together), Cottage Pie (a variant of Shepherd s Pie, using beef instead of lamb), or Beef Wellington. Granted, great food is not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of England, but the limey s aren t starving, so they obviously can slap a decent meal together (as long as you don t use chutney!). As of this writing, I don t know whether or not we re going to be able to pull it all together, but stay tuned, and we ll try to come up with some kind of a program.
