Page 4 February 4, 2018 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Brothers and Sisters, This weekend we continue to hear in our Gospel the early days that the disciples spent with Jesus. We are presented with a very personal story of Peter and his family. His mother-in-law is ill. Jesus comes to stay in his house and, out of love, performs a great miracle. He heals Peter's mother-in- law. Her reaction to being healed may surprise us - she begins to wait on Jesus and all those in the house. She may not have been aware of it at the time, bus she is giving you and me an example of discipleship.

10 The call to be Jesus disciple is three fold. To come to know him, to allow him to touch and heal whatever needs healing in our lives, and then to serve him by serving others. May we imitate her example of discipleship in our own lives. This weekend is also the Kick-Off Weekend of Catholic Charities Appeal. This year is the 60th Anniversary of the Catholic Charities Appeal in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The theme of this year's appeal is 60 Years of Giving Hope To All . The Catholic Charities Appeal is the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's single most important annual fundraising initiative. For 60. years the generous people of the Archdiocese and this Parish have responded to this appeal to help those in need by donating over $290 million dollars.
