It is the earliest health care system of Indiabeginning over 5,000 years ago. More than 1,200 species of plants, nearly 100 minerals and over 100 animal productscomprise the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia Asava and Arishta are unique dosage form discovered by Ayurveda havingindefinite shelf life and it was said that the older the better it is Arishtasare self-generated herbal fermentations of traditional Ayurvedic system.

They are alcoholic medicamentsprepared by allowing the herbal juices or their decoctions to undergo fermentation with the addition of is the herb used for rejuvenation of whole body and shows immunomodulatory, adaptogenic and severalother the present study ASHWAGANDHARISHTA was prepared and herb as well as arishta was standardized : Ashwagandha, Arishta, Ayurveda, TLC, IntroductionAyurveda is a traditional Indian medicinal systembeing practiced for thousands of years. More than1,200 species of plants, nearly 100 minerals and over100 animal products comprise the AyurvedicPharmacopoeia.

Asava and Arishta are unique dosageform discovered by Ayurveda having indefinite shelflife and it was said that the older the better it is .Because this dosage form has an inherent attribute ofcontinuous hydro-alcoholic extraction and probablyformation of natural analogues of the chemicalcompounds present in the medicinal self-generated herbalfermentations of traditional Ayurvedic system. Theyare alcoholic medicaments prepared by allowing theherbal juices or their decoctions to undergofermentation with the addition of with decoctions of herbs in boiling water whileasavasare prepared by directly using fresh of arishta can be done by decoction andinfusion process.

In this process, the crude drug isboiled in a specified volume of water for a definedtime; it is then cooled and strained or filtered. Thisprocedure is suitable for extracting water-soluble, heat-stable Fresh infusions are prepared bymacerating the crude drug for a short period of timewith cold or boiling water. Woodfordia fruticosaaremostly used in asava and aishta for product of arishta and asava end up with 79products out of which 38 are arishtas. Many arishtassuch as arjunarishta, ashokarishta, amirthaViswamritha, Balamritha and Swasamrutharishta areavailable in the present study ASHWAGANDHARISHTA was is one of the reputed herb in Ayurvedaand has many actions on body like anti-ageing,adaptogenic, immunomodulatory, anxiety, depression, stress, cardiovascular protection, hypothyroidism toRicha Kushwaha et al ChemTech ,3(3)

1034name a It contains alkaloids and steroidalslactones, Many bio-chemical heterogeneous alkaloids, including choline, tropanol, pseudotopanol, cuscokygrene, 3-tigioyloxytropana, isopelletierine andseveral other steroidal lactories, withanolides andseveral ,7B. Experimental Method of preparationIn preparation of ASHWAGANDHARISHTA , Ashwagandha,Musali, Yashtimadhuka Vidari, Shatavari Bramhi,Shankhapushpi, Daruharidra,Arjuna,.Sarkara, Dhataki,Sunthi Pippali,Nagkesra, curcuma was basic were first cleaned and rinsed in water to getrid of dirt.

For preparation of arishta a decoction wasobtained by boiling the drugs in the specified volumeof water used should be clean clear and potable. Whenthe extracts are obtained the sugar (cane sugar),jaggery and or honey are added and completelydissolved. Sometimes any one or more of these sugarysubstances are omitted if so directed in the recipe. Thesugar jaggery and Honey should be pure the jaggery tobe added should be very old (prapurana ) because freshjaggery aggravates kapha and suppresses the power ofdigestion. The flavoring agents are coarsely powderedand added to sweetened extract.

The earthen pot or jarintended for fermenting the medicine is tested forweak spot and cracks and similarly lid is The Fermentation processDuring autumn and summer season s fermentationtakes place in 6 days. In winter it takes 10 was prepared and earthen pot was sealed withthree layers of clay smeared with cloth and kept indark place, undisturbed for a Physicochemical analysis of crude drugAshwagandha8i)Total Ash ValueHeat silica crucible to red heat for 30 min , allow tocool and weigh it. Unless otherwise specified in theindividual monograph weigh accurately about 1 gmsubstance under examination and evenly distribute it incrucible.

Dry at 100o to 105o for 1hr and ignite toconstant weight . Allow to cool after each material should not catch fire at any time duringprocedure. If after prolong ignition carbon free ashcannot be obtained as directed in method.
