2 The building was expertly designed by architects Foster + Partners to cope with the region s demanding climatic conditions, whilst at the same time majestically displaying local traditional architectural style. Creating such an iconic building was extremely challenging. One particular challenge was the complexity of the 3D roof design. The design required that the metal roof be supported on top of precast concrete shells, which were insulated and covered with a single-ply weather-proof membrane. A 300mm air void beneath the Standing seam roof sheets was added to assist in reducing the heat load on the strong lightweight steel framework to cover the total roof area of 45,000m2 was essential in order to support the Standing seam system and accommodate the negative wind loadings for the intricate layering of materials, along with the need to maintain the specified air void, necessitated a specialist, bespoke solution.

3 Project contractors J&P Ltd consulted with Kingspan Insulated Panels LLC to provide this solution. Using the proven KingZip SF product, with its adaptability, zip-up design and halter system , the Kingspan Insulated Panels LLC technical team created a lightweight steel structure covered with an aesthetically pleasing shield that curved in two directions. This layout met the design teams criteria, by forming the roof s unique 3D shape and maintaining the 300mm void between the KingZip SF Standing seam sheets and the concrete of the KingZip SF Standing seam sheets were curved from the eaves to the apex, and on the opposite side from the apex to the eaves, to create the desired double curved petal shape. KingZip SF is available in aluminium, copper, stainless or galvanised steel, as well as in a variety of paint Systems .

4 It is manufactured in cover widths of 300, 400 and 500mm in continuous lengths up to a maximum of 150 metres. The KingZip SF sheets can be produced in non-standard widths and in addition be concave and convex smooth curved in both parallel and tapered sheets providing architects with significant freedom of design. The KingZip SF Standing seam product is FM Certified and tested to UL 580 90, as well as it fully complies with international Building Regulations/Technical to the close working relationship between Foster + Partners, J&P Ltd and the Kingspan Insulated Panels LLC team, the new terminal at the Queen Alia International Airport is now the jewel in Jordan s crown.
