1 Steven J. Wofford Steven J. Wofford currently serves as the Liquid Engines Element Manager in NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) program. In this capacity he is responsible for all aspects of liquid engine implementation for SLS, including design, development, test, and flight of both the core stage and upper stage engines. Mr. Wofford became a NASA employee in 2000 as a Project Engineer assigned to the Space Shuttle Main Engine Project Office. In this capacity, he served for several years as a subsystem manager for SSME combustion devices and turbomachinery hardware. Mr. Wofford also functioned during this timeframe as the overall production manager for the Space Shuttle Main Engine and is considered one the Agency s experts on liquid rocket engine manufacturing. Following his first tenure in the SSME Project Office, Mr.

2 Wofford served in NASA s Constellation Program as both the lead for RS-68 engine component design and development, as well as the lead for SSME/RS-25 engine manufacturing and production. Mr. Wofford subsequently returned to the Shuttle Program in 2006 as the Chief Safety and Mission Assurance Officer for Shuttle Propulsion. In this role he was responsible for the formulation and judgment of flight rationale for all technical issues on Space Shuttle Propulsion elements. Mr. Wofford actively contributed to the engineering solution of several key flight issues in this important post-Columbia return-to-flight period. Mr. Wofford later served as the Deputy Manager for the Space Shuttle Main Engine Project at NASA s Marshall Space Flight Center. These duties included launch site go/no-go decision-making for flight as a Space Shuttle Mission Management Team member.

3 Following the end of the Space Shuttle Program, Mr. Wofford was asked to lead the business office in the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate at MSFC, and was subsequently promoted to the Senior Executive Service position of Deputy Director there and served in that capacity prior to his current assignment. Prior to becoming a NASA employee, Mr. Wofford worked for 13 years for contractor organizations in support of the SSME project, including the post-Challenger return to flight SSME recertification efforts. Mr. Wofford received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1986 and a Master of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1991. Mr. Wofford and his wife, Marisa, also a NASA employee, reside in Huntsville.
