During the last three decades, the FAO Statistics Division and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) have been collaborating very closely to improve the quality and availability of statistics on the vitivinicultural sector, which includes GRAPES , juice, wine, DRIED GRAPES and other vine-based products.

7 This cooperation aims to improve the global monitoring of key aspects of the grape market an important component of the food and agricultural sector - and at enabling the formulation of evidence-based decisions and policies. The wealth of statistical information available at FAO (through FAOSTAT, the world's largest statistical database on food, agriculture, fisheries, forestry and natural resources), coupled with the scientific and technical expertise of OIV, provides the appropriate knowledge-mix to analyse trends and growth opportunities of the entire vitivinicultural spectrum.

8 This publication is the tangible output of this good and long- standing FAO-OIV cooperation, and focuses specifically on TABLE and DRIED GRAPES . The study presents the reader with some key facts regarding food use and nutritional value of the grape family products, as well as time series since 2000 on domestic production, exports and imports, market size, and apparent consumption. 8 FAO-OIV FOCUS 2016. Considering that the use of grape and its unfermented products represents almost half of the world total grape production, there is a real need for market analysts and policy experts to be able to rely on an updated and comprehensive picture of trends and patterns of the global grape market.
