KVK Mandate Conducting On Farm Testing (OFT) to identify the location specificity of AGRICULTURAL technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use under various farming systems. 8 Action taken on the recommendations given during 18th SAC meeting held on Sl. No. Salient Recommendations Recommended by Action taken 1. Location specific and need based interventions have to be made by the KVK especially in the major crops like ground nut, gingelly, rice and sugarcane. Honourable Vice-Chancellor, TNAU This KVK laid various OFTs, FLDs and trainings on major crops like rice, groundnut, gingelly and sugarcane in the region during the year 2013-14. The interventions include newly released varieties and technologies on crop management and crop protection. OFTs on the assessment of drought mitigation technologies and rice varieties suitable for salt affected soils were conducted during 2013-14. FFS on integrated nutrient management in sugarcane was conducted successfully at Vijayamanagaram village. OFT on the assessment of drought tolerant groundnut varieties for Cuddalore district and demonstration of chisel ploughing to break the subsoil hardening in groundnut growing areas are the ongoing programmes to increase the productivity of groundnut crop.

9 2. Formulate an OFT on Assessment of suitable cropping pattern utilizing farm ponds both - lined and unlined conditions. Honourable Vice-Chancellor, TNAU Five OFTs were conducted at Athiyanallur, Thatchakadu and villages during 2013-14. Among the five farm ponds, one pond is lined with high density polyethylene sheet to avoid the percolation, seepage and infiltration losses. The cropping systems like direct seeded paddy rice fallow pulses and groundnut + pulses (4:1) were raised for identifying the suitable cropping pattern utilizing the harvested rain water in farm pond. The results showed that the rice equivalent yield is higher under groundnut + pulses (5840 kg/ha). Highest net return (Rs. 60455/-) and the highest WUE ( kg/ha-m3) were recorded under direct seeded paddy + rice fallow pulse cropping system. 3. Include marketing avenues in all the interventions made by the KVK. The Zonal Project Director, Bangalore This KVK giving trainings and technology advisories to the farmers along with modern technologies on value addition and marketing strategies During 2013-14, 11 market based vocational trainings were conducted.

10 An awareness training programme on the formation of flower commodity group was conducted on at this KVK. Dr. M. Selvam, Executive Director, AGRICULTURAL Marketing Intelligence and Trade Management Centre, Trichy participated in this programme and delivered the special lecture. On campus training on Marketing avenues has been conducted on at this KVK to promote flower production and marketing in Cuddalore district. Twenty five leading flower growers were taken to the successful flower commodity groups at Erode and Sathiyamangalam on through exposure visit. One Cuddalore district commercial flower growers welfare association has been registered under Govt. Of TAMIL nadu . As recommended by the UNIVERSITY , the marketing information were being sent as mobile advisory through KMAS of ICAR (SMS) to the farming community. 4.
