A headteachercannotdire ct a teacher to undertakedutiesonany of the 170 calendar days,171 in a leap year,not specifiedas wor king daysby the em . The NUTbelievesthat the re sho uld be no variationfromtheworkingdayssp ecifiedby the em ployerfor schoolsgenerallyor wit hin individual scho ols with out consultation wi th theteachers concerned. NUT mem be rs fa cing variations whi ch donot meetwit h th eir agr ee me nt sh ould consultthe Uni . The STPCDst ates that a full-t ime teacher mustbe availableto perf or m su ch dut ies at suchtime s and suchplacesas maybe specified by the he ad or 1265hoursin anyschoolyear,th ose hou rs to be allo catedreasonablythroughoutthosedaysin th e scho ol ye ar on wh ich the teacheris req ui redto be available fo r wo rk.

In ad va nce of each academic year,teachers sh ou ld bepr ov id ed wi th a di recte d time calendaror diary,se tting out the ircommit me nt s in termsof te aching,PPA tim e, lead ershipan dmanage men t ti me and memb ers sho uld co ntactth e Un io n if they belie ve that they are lik ely to exceed 126 5 ho ursof dir ec te d ti me or pro- rata if part- tim e.
