The MD 500E light turbine helicopter allows easy configuration conversion from a five-place personnel transport to a utility helicopter. With a five-blade main rotor and either a 420-shp Rolls-Royce 250-C20B turbine engine or an optional 450-shp Rolls-Royce 250-C20R/2 turbine engine, the MD 500E is the best performing helicopter in its class. The MD 500E has a relatively small diameter main rotor system and a short tail with a high horizontal stabilizer with two tip plates to provide vertical, longitudinal, and lateral stability in forward flight. Rotor blades can be folded to allow confined-enclosure storage. The MD 500E is certified for single pilot operation under visual flight rules / visual meteorological conditions.
